GROUND TRANSPORTATION

There are two international airports in Shanghai, the Pudong International

Airport (airport code PVG) and the Hongqiao International Airport (airport code

SHA) (Map 1).

Please be aware at which airport you will be landing. You can reach the Baiyulan

Hotel from the airports by taxi, Maglev (high-speed magnetic levitation line, for

PVG only), or metro (subway), or their combinations.

From the Pudong International Airport (PVG):

1. Taxi (recommend if you have large luggage and/or arrive at evening): Please

take a taxi at the airport directly to the hotel. It takes about 50 minutes and

costs about 160 yuan (RMB). Or

2. Maglev + taxi: Take the Maglev at the Pudong Airport, get off the Maglev at

the Longyang Station (terminal of Maglev). Then, take a taxi to the hotel. Ticket

of Maglev: 40 yuan each by showing your flight ticket or boarding pass. Taxi costs

about 60 yuan. Or

at the Pudong Airport, transit to Metro Line 2 at the Longyang Station (terminal

of Maglev), then change to Metro Line 10 at the ―East Nanjing Road‖ Station, and

get off at the ―Tongji University‖ Station. The hotel is about 150 meters away to

the east of this station. It costs ~50 Yuan for this option. Or

4. Metros only: Take Metro Line 2 at the Pudong Airport, transit to Metro Line 10

at the ―East Nanjing Road‖ Station, and get off at the ―Tongji University‖ Station.

The hotel is about 150 meters away to the east of this station. It costs only ~10

Yuan for this option but you need ~2 hr to get to the hotel.

From the Hongqiao International Airport (SHA):

1. Taxi: It takes you about 40 minutes and costs ~100 yuan. There are also Airport

buses, but none of those comes close to Tongji. Or

off at the ―Tongji University‖ Station. The hotel is about 150 meters away to the

east of this station.

It costs ~6 Yuan and takes ~1.0 hr to get to the hotel.

Taxi is recommended if your arrival at the airports later than 21:00 PM. Please

Misconception: It‘s better to take the train than air to Tibet for acclimatizing

altitude sickness.

Truth: It‘s better to take the flight to Tibet. Since right after you finally get

acclimatized to the altitude of a certain feet‘s height, you have to face another

breathing problem, then another, while the train is running up and up. Your body is

struggling in this situation all the time, and finally you will feel even more

uncomfortable.

Misconception: You can watch more scenes by taking the train from other places

to Tibet.

Truth: You will see MORE to take the train from Tibet to other places. Travel

agency with much experience strongly recommend you to enjoy Tibet train

experience the other way around. Other reasons: Only in this way you are 100%

guaranteed the soft sleeper or the other requests if the travel agents are

powerful enough or if there is NO government interference.
