Achievements, 2007-2010
The HiTI project developed and field tested: • Temperature, pressure, flow and casing collar location for
400°C (memory tool). • Televiewer, natural gamma radiation spectral detection and
temperature to 300°C (wireline, continuous read-out). • Fiber optic temperature readout to 280°C. • Chemical tracers up to 350°C and geothermometry beyond
400°C. • Laboratory deformation and resistivity experiments at high
temperature and pressure.

Thoughts after end of HITI
• Resistivity probe developed but never field tested. • Other instruments fully tested but only tracer tests and
the slick-line tool test performed in the first IDDP well (that well was not drilled as deep as planned).
• These tools ‘open the window’ to supercritical well environment and are currently world cutting-edge geothermal tools that can also be used in conventional high temperature geothermal environment.

Suggestions to proceed
• Gauges tolerating 500-600°C, primarily temperature and pressure probes.
• Fluid sampler at 500°C. • More wireline tools to 300°C, e.g. vertical
seismic profiling, caliper (well width) and resistivity.
• Additional chemical methods (tracers and geothermometry) valid at more than 400°C.
