RESEARCH, CONSULTANCY AND EXTENSION

3.1 Promotion of Research

3.1.1 Does the university have a Research Committee to monitor and address

issues related to research? If yes, what is its composition? Mention a

few recommendations which have been implemented and their impact.

A High Level University Research Board has been constituted as per rules to monitor and promote the research.

The Research Board of SGVU consists of the following members:

S.No. Personnel Position in Research Board

1. Dean Research Convener

2. Deans & Professors of all Faculty Members

3. 3 Eminent Scholars nominated by the Board of Management

Members of different specialization

4. Deputy Registrar (Academic) Member Secretary

The Research Board meets at least twice in an academic session preferably in the month of

January & July.

The functions of the Research Board are as follows:

Recommendation of the eminent and distinguished persons from outside the

University for guiding research scholars and work.

Recommendation of the names of University Researchers as Supervisors for

guiding research scholars and work.

Recommendation of prerequisites and minimum eligible qualification for appointment of a Research Supervisor.

Consideration of the recommendations made by the DRC for registration of candidates for Ph.D. degree.

Consideration of the cases where there is change of subject of research topic for registered candidates for doctoral degree.

Review the cases where there exists difference of opinion between examiners of Ph.D. thesis and specific cases that are not explicitly covered by University

Application for Research Grants.

Following are the major recommendations of the Research Board:

(1) Plagiarism check must be done for each Ph.D. Thesis. (2) It should be mandatory to publish minimum two research papers

having impact factor 0.5.

(3) Regular workshops should be conducted as a part of research work.

The University also constitutes specific research committees based on nature of the

research projects and the research areas of importance. Several research centres have been established in emerging fields as follows:

Centre of Excellence: Solar Energy Research & Utilization

Center for Climate Change & Research,

3.1.2 What is the policy of the university to promote research in its affiliated

/ constituent colleges?

Not Applicable 3.1.3 What are the proactive mechanisms adopted by the university to

facilitate the smooth implementation of research schemes/projects?

advancing funds for sanctioned projects

providing seed money

simplification of procedures related to sanctions / purchases to be

made by the investigators

autonomy to the principal investigator/coordinator for utilizing

overhead charges

timely release of grants

timely auditing

submission of utilization certificate to the funding authorities

The institution allocates a minimum 5% of total budget for the promotion of research

facilities, apart from for organizing seminars, conferences symposium etc. The financial support is provided to researcher to begin work once a project is sanctioned. Adequate provisions are made and available for researcher to pursue the

R & D work in addition to allocation extended on need based and priority based.

and

Collaboration with national/international institutes / industries.

The SGVU has set up Centre of Excellence for solar energy research and

utilization with solar lab and solar park with the object to promote inter-disciplinary collaboration in Research for the promotion of the share of the

solar energy in the society. This excellence centre has eminent Professor as Director with a team of five scientists backed by faculties from the different disciplines. In addition to it, three Centers on Climate Change & Research,

Centre for Air & Water Modeling and Knowledge Dissemination Centre are running where scientists and faculties from different background

collaborate. All these centers have active participation of research scholars and students from different leading institutes.

3.1.5 Give details of workshops/ training programmes/ sensitization

programmes conducted by the university to promote a research culture

on campus.

Workshops/Seminars/Training programmes/sensitization programmes

conducted every year in the areas of specializations in the respective departments and are regular features of the University. On International Level, Conference on Climate Change and Water (C3W) are conducted

every year in the month of October where more than 30 parallel sessions were organized in last C3W-2014 convention.

The University also published/publishes proceedings of the conferences

and as well the regular journals as follows:

Transition to Renewable Energy

Fossil fuels have been the fuels of choice in 20th century and the 21st century is a transition period from fossil fuels to renewable energy. The

transition requires a concerted effort for capacity building in the area of Renewable Sector. A broad spectrum of energy systems and novel technologies are required to address the challenges of expanding energy

resources and sustainable development. An estimated potential of solar power and wind in India is projected of

the order of 748980 MW and 100000 MW respectively. The projections include all possible systems and improvement in the technology. Rajasthan has the highest Solar Power (142310 MW) potential in the

country with its healthy resource of solar radiation and availability of vast land in the form of the Thar Desert. The Jawaharlal Nehru National

Solar Mission (JNNSM) was launched on the 11th January, 2010 by the Prime Minister. The Mission has set the ambitious target of deploying 20,000 MW of grid connected solar power by 2020 is being revised to

100000 MW by 2020 by the government of India.

Center of Excellence-Solar Energy Research & Utilization

The Center of Excellence for Solar Energy Research & Utilization

Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur engages in academic programs, research, and professional training in the fields of renewable energy and

energy efficiency for the sustainable use of conventional power. Programs in the Center of Excellence are innovative, interdisciplinary, and problem-oriented. It expanded emphasis on the nexus between

energy and environment with a focus on emerging technologies. The interdisciplinary oriented approach underlines the research programs

that provides most challenging and a wide range of research topics. Research focuses on technologies for efficient and clean energy

Page 108

is taking place throughout world .To make students aware Suresh Gyan Vihar University is working with students groups called community .

“GREEN Community”- which is a community to sensitize students about Climate Change and water crisis in India and broad.

The Mission

Green Community’s aim is to make students aware about conserving

energy, investing in renewable energy, conserving water, conserving fuel, reducing waste and protecting, restoring earth’s natural resources.

the use of natural resources. Reducing carbon foot prints (reducing the use of natural resources petrol, coal etc), and steering young minds to make use of solar energy and to

prepare them well to do so. Reusing the products or waste management (Reducing takeaway food to

minimize the use of plastic plates etc.) Recycle the waste products. Recharging water levels, Saline water treatment and rain water harvesting .These are some of the issues which

have top priorities in Green agenda. Moving towards sustainable development and keeping the strict agenda to use the green ways isn’t

easy, but SGVU Green community has taken oath to move in the direction towards greener and better tomorrow. Green Community activities
