Who is using TETRA ?
• 3,500,000 critical communications professionals using TETRA today ……………..
• 2014 saw another increase in terminal shipments over 2013 which had been the most successful year EVER
• Over 600,000 new and replacement terminals shipped last year
• Upward trend continuing with over 4,000,000 active terminals by 2017

TETRA terminals include great data features on the radio itself — pull information — push information — alarms (callout). Big screens that can fit in your hand and are visible in every situation, including in sunshine.
Single device mission and business critical solution for both voice and data.

MCPTT Summary (1)• Push To Talk (PTT) group and PTT individual communications
involving the EPS and external networking and application interaction;
• Services, including talker identification, location, and emergency alerting for mission critical voice communication;
• Voice/audio quality;• Special privilege handling (For console interaction - e.g,
override, monitor, exception handling, etc);• Service availability;• Floor control, priority and pre-emption;• Performance, including call establishment times and
permission to talk request, to permission granted times;
-
Presentation on behalf of the TETRA + Critical Communications Association
MCPTT Summary (2)• Use of GCSE_LTE;• Use of Proximity Services (ProSe);• Interconnection with voice systems, including cellular and the
PSTN, as well as private/land mobile radio;• Security, including confidentiality of mission-critical voice
communications;• Charging/billing and system management considerations;• Management of Mission Critical PTT communications;• Presence service, including interaction with other
communication services.
MCPTT should aim at re-using existing, standardized functionality when possible and justified

Standardisation
• Standardisation has been a key element in the success of TETRA. The Association is keen for that to continue into the future
• Pre-standard andother proprietary offerings
• Multiple standards !

Spectrum
“ The robustness, availability and security required for the communications needs of Mission Critical Operations cannot be ensured by relying on commercial radio providers. The view of the PPDR community is that it is essential for government’ organisations to control enough radio spectrum harmonised in one global range in order for them to deliver these critical services to society. Consequently, the entire sector encourages Governments, through their Regulators, to recognise the societal needs for effective PPDR services and to work to ensure one global harmonized broadband range at WRC-15. “

My view of TETRA and PMR going forward
• Here for many years to come !• Still the premier voice and data technology
installed by critical communications users in over 130 countries
• Major implementations ongoing• Yet more contracts !• Record shipments• Ongoing development• Clear evolution path
