Critical Equipment - Preparations Through R2E we started to collect the list of requirements of the most

critical systems (based on current knowledge) in terms of a required

relocation

To first check the approach a first example was performed for the PIC

installed in Point-1 (with M. Zerlauth an colleagues)

To combine operation, integration constraints and radiation levels we set

together with A.L. Perrot and the respective Point-Owners and agreed on:

Point-Owners will check the list of selected equipment and their respective critical

locations

A.L. Perrot looks into possible new locations and verifies integration constraints

the respective equipment responsible are contacted to retrieve a list of requirements,

time constraints and related issues

For LHCb as well as the other critical points some first answers are

available

May 28th 2009 1Current Status of Preparations of 'Early Relocations'

Example: PIC in UJ14/16 (same for UJ56)M. Zerlauth, B. Todd, B. Puccio, P. Dahlen:

would need to re-locate the 6 PLCs(for 6 Powering Interlock Controllers currently in UJ14 and UJ16) :

Find a new location, with space for 6 PLCs of type 319 - half an LHC rack would be sufficient, location identified in US15

UPS power + 6 Ethernet connections are needed in this new rack Pull/Extend 1 Profibus cable / PLC, thus in total 6 cables from the current

rack CYCIP01=UJ14 / UJ16 to the new destination Pull/Extend 1 Remote reset cable / PLC, thus in total 6 cables from the

current rack CYCIP01=UJ14 / UJ16 to the new destination Probably also need two additional power supplies to go into this new rack

(provided by us) This solution will re-loacte the PLCs, but does not concern (yet) the power

converter/QPS cabling, thus is still rather easy to be done. As soon as all cabling, Ethernet and UPS power is available, the re-

location could be done in a couple of days only (physical re-locationonly ~ 1 day, updating configuration and supervision systems 1-2 days, probably a day for re-commissioning)

To be on the safe side “say a week...”

AL3 (Rui Nunes): Relocation required before startup (risk of undetected fire)

concerned areas: UJ76 (improved through local shielding)

US85

UJ56

Relocation to UL/UA or surface possible

Fire control equipment more easily to be moved to the

surface, for ODH limitations on the cable length exist

(UL/UA possible)

R. Nunes started to prepare the list of requirements and

time estimates, currently bottle-neck in his group to retrieve

further details

Detailed planning and preparations required for the next

step

required time (estimate) given as long (~4months), where 3

months were estimated to get cables; the latter can be

faster if required as local stock exists

UPS support can be installed in parallel

power cut required for about 4-7 days, issue for cryogenics

checked with Point-Owners and not a problem (sector can

remain floating for 3-4 weeks)

one week of re-commissioning

at P8 (US85) relocation in the UA possible

underground location is required because of limitation in cable length

usual delay for ordering the required cables, installation time of cables to

be verified with J.C. Guillaume

the actual relocation and re-commissioning is fast

in addition many concerned racks also contain the WorldFip equipment

(Raymond Brun), thus this has to be coordinated accordingly

important dependencies for the remote reset rack (cables and

interconnections), detailed planning required also for depending

equipment

for P8 it is interesting to note that the „clients‟ of the remote reset are

mostly (except Timing) are all located in the UAs where radiation levels

can be considered as significantly better than in the US

the system can be relocated and the maximum possible distance is

500m

find a new location: 1/2-1 LHC rack would be sufficient for P8

UPS power + Ethernet connections are needed in this new rack

pull/Extend 1 Profibus cable / PLC and 1 Remote reste cable / PLC

probably one additional power supply for the new rack

this solution will relocate the PLCs, but not concern (yet?) the WIC

cabling, thus is still rather easy to be done.

as soon as all cabling, Ethernet and UPS power is available, the re-

location could be done in a couple of days only (physical re-location only

~ 1 day, updating configuration and supervision systems 1-2 days,

Collimation Control (Alessandro Masi): concerned areas:

UJ14/16

UJ56

the system can be relocated

required amount of cables, power requirements and other

communication infrastructure are known

preparations can start as soon as final locations are specified

dedicated radiation test performed at CERF; achieved only limited

intensity, however giving confidence that only limited problems will occur

during 2009/10 operation
