Literacy and EnglishReadingCheck your yellow Reading Record for reading homework on Monday,

Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Make sure you get an adult at home to sign your jotter when you have read the required pages.

Remember to bring your reading book to school every day.‘How To Train Your Dragon’ – Each time you read I would like you to record up to five new words in your yellow Reading Record and find out what they mean. You can use a dictionary, an online dictionary or ask someone at home. If you know the meaning of all the words find five ‘Wow!’ words which you think you might be able to use in your own writing. All other groups should choose a Reading Activity from the list provided and record which activity you have completed in your Home Learning jotter.

Numeracy and MathsRemember that you can access the excellent http://www.interactive-resources.co.uk/ website from home; both the username and

password are crownprimary (all lower case). Go into the ‘P4 – Miss Gray’ folder and you will find games to practise both telling the time, and mental addition/subtraction up to 100 – the subtraction games are new this term. Keep practising speed of mental recall of addition and subtraction number facts to 5/10/20.We have been working on measuring in centimetres and metres. Use a ruler to measure 6 items you find in your house and record the items and their measurements in your Home Learning jotter. Remember to watch for the gaps at the start and end of the ruler.

Metaphors & SimilesTell somebody at home what the difference between a metaphor and a simile is.

Look at these sentences and decide which are metaphors and which are similes. Write the sentences in your Home Learning jotter and note beside each one what you think it is.a) He was as tall as a giraffe. __________________

b) Her heart is gold. _____________________c) Without her glasses the lady was as blind as a bat. ________________d) He crept as quietly as a mouse. __________________e) They were two peas in a pod. __________________

Look at the pictures opposite and write 1 simile and 1 metaphor to describe each picture in your Home Learning jotter. How creative can you be?

Are you ready to work?Unfortunately fewer and fewer pupils are coming to school ready to work. Miss Gray's stocks are gradually dwindling, and there is a lot of time spent scrabbling around for pencils etc. at the start of each day.Children coming to school prepared are constantly being asked for a 'borrow' which, apart from the distress caused by non-returned, misplaced or damaged items, is disruptive to their learning as they are constantly disturbed.Every child should come to school armed with a couple of pencils (they do not last indefinitely with the amount of work we do), a rubber and a sharpener at the very least. If possible these should be named and kept in a clearly marked pencil case (one is fine).Thank you for your support with this.

Christmas Craft EnterpriseAs P6 are taking over the Christmas Fayre as their Enterprise Project this year, P4 will not be running a class stall. This frees everyone up to come along and enjoy the afternoon with their family (Miss Gray will definitely be there to support SOCS, P6 and do a little bit of Christmas shopping). However, in the approach to Christmas, we will be undertaking a little mini-project of our own and will keep you posted through our class blog.

What’s on?* Christmas Fayre Saturday 3rd December 12-2pm* Please remember PE every Thursday.* Karate Club on Monday after school.* No Cross Country training after school on Tuesday (we will resume, weather permitting, after the Christmas holidays) .* P4 Wednesday lunchtime Art Club with Miss Gray.* Home Learning jotters should be returned to school on Thursday 8th December to be marked before the next round of Home Learning is issued.
