CLIMATE

Most of Croatia has a moderately warm continental climate. The coast has mediterranean climate. The coldest month is usually January with average temperature -3°C (27 F) and some snow. The hottest is July with average of 31°C (87 F).

ABOUT CROATIA

It is small but a very diverse country with just around 4 500 000 people living there. Croatia has the Adriatic Sea and more then 1000 islands, beautiful national parks and rich history. It is a popular tourist destination.

DUBROVNIK is the most popular and well known town in Croatia. It is very old and famous

tourist attraction.

Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia. It is our biggest city.

Its population is more then 750 000. It is historical city and more then 900 years old.

TRANSPORTATION

In Zagreb we have trams and the shortest funicular in the world (only 66 m).

HOUSING

• Many people live in block of flats in Zagreb. In smaller towns and villages they live in houses. Houses are mostly made of bricks.On the coast some are made of stone.

SPORT

Football is the most popular sport.

Skiing, tennis, handball and ice-hockey (in last few years) are popular too.

FOODCroatian traditional cuisine varies from one region to another. It is tradition to

cook at home and eat out just on special ocassions.

In our class, short survey shows that Italian food is the most popular (pizza, lasagne, pastry) but we also like fish.

Zagreb surrounding is known for growing strawberries.

FLORA & FAUNA

The Slavonian oak  is the national tree of Croatia.

The ”Iris croatica” is the national flower of Croatia.

The Marten (croatian word for it is KUNA)  is the national animal of Croatia.

Our currancy is called the KUNA too.

OUR SCHOOLOur school is a public, state school.It has an older and a newer building (on photos). Older is 105 years old.There are 340 pupils. We start school at the age of 7. We don’t wear school uniforms. Children start learning English from the first grade. In the forth grade most of them start learning the second foreign language, German.

We are just at the end of the 3rd grade. Most of us are 10 years old. Some

pupils are still 9. There are 19 of us in our class.
