CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, STANISLAUS2

California State UniverSity, StaniSlaUS

A top-rated institution recognized for academic excellence, outstanding graduation rates, com-mitment to diversity, and championship athletics, CSU Stanislaus was named one of “The Top Public Universities–Master’s” institutions in the West by U.S. News & World Report, one of the “Best 366 Colleges” in the nation by The Princeton Review as well as one of 165 “Best Value Colleges.”

Our unique way of thinking about education shows up in everything we do—from the one-on-one mentoring relationships stu-dents enjoy with faculty and staff to the renowned small class sizes we offer. It’s who we are. It’s one reason why so many of our alumni enjoy success beyond college. And it’s also why nearly 9,000 students continue to expand their intellectual, creative, and social horizons while seeking their degrees from CSU Stanislaus.

We are learning-centeredAt CSU Stanislaus, we believe in an open marketplace of fresh ideas where voices and opinions are freely exchanged both inside and outside the classroom. Our faculty members are professional educators who have built their careers on creating an ideal environment for learning. As experts in their fields, many are involved in active research projects that bring cutting-edge theories and practices straight into the classroom community.

rigorous programsAt CSU Stanislaus, students are introduced to a wide range of quality programs that will challenge minds, inspire hearts, and actually qualify students for something that fits their ambitions. We offer more than 1,000 courses all told in our six distinct col-leges. We also offer 40 undergraduate programs, 29 graduate majors, five graduate certificate programs, and a host of teaching credentials.

Honors ProgramAdvanced students discover their potential in our Honors Program, designed for students of unusual curiosity, energy, and aca-demic capability representing all disciplines. Honor students take upper-level coursework central to their major or discipline and participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities and excursions culminating in a senior-year Capstone projects.

location. location. location.Situated in a park-like setting that is unique in the CSU system, new students are immediately drawn to CSU Stanislaus by its tranquil and picturesque environment — the perfect backdrop for focused, serious study. We have 228 acres of lawns, bridges, waterfalls, and ponds that will make students feel as though they are walk-ing through a private park on their way to class. Our campus is considered one of the most beautiful—and safest—public cam-puses in all of California, where nature coexists in harmony with the pleasing architectural style of our buildings. Looking beyond the natural beauty, students find modern computer and research labs, a technologically enhanced library, and our latest addition, the Nora and Hashem Naraghi Hall of Science.

fun is all around usTurlock is nestled between the awe-inspiring Sierra Nevada and the greater Bay Area in the rapidly developing Central Valley. The cam-pus is only two hours away from San Francisco, Berkeley, Marin, and Palo Alto — the home of Silicon Valley. Mountain climbing, sailing, and water sports are nearby to enjoy.

CSU Stanislaus is only a short distance from Yosemite National Park, Monterey Bay, and Lake Tahoe—great for outdoor weekends, holi-days, and spring break. Sacramento, the seat of state government and the home of Old Town with its New Orleans vibe, is just an hour or so north.

Student lifeThere’s more to college than attending class, studying, or bubbling in answers on Scantron forms. At CSU Stanislaus , people experience a campus culture that fosters strong relationships between students, faculty, and administrators. Students make lifelong friends with their classmates, association and club members, fraternity brothers, and sorority sisters. Students become part of a vibrant campus life, where activities are plentiful. With close to 100 active student organizations and more than 9,000 potential friends at CSU Stanislaus, there is a niche for everyone.

Call us homeFor many, living on campus is part of the college experience. Strong bonds and lifelong friendships are created through the shared experience of campus life. For campus residents, there are no hassles with transportation or parking, and classrooms and other facilities are just steps away from where our students live. The Village at CSU Stanislaus is decidedly not a typical dorm. With the choice of spacious single, double, or triple occupancy suites or single-occupancy apartments, students can pick the one that’s right for them. Privacy, yes, but Village life is anything but dull; with dozens of organized activities — from mixers to dances — students can be as involved as they want to be. The Village boasts two swimming pools, a spa, a total of seven coinless laundry facilities, a computer lab, a study hall, recreation room, sport courts, fitness center, and a new dining hall com-plete with an outdoor patio.

international educationCSU Stanislaus students can take an internship in France, visit Malta, apply for a scholarship to China, or spend a summer in Prague. As an example, in a single semester, CSU Stanislaus students were recently studying in Spain, Israel, France, Canada, Australia, and Wales. Best of all, financial aid applies, so students can take courses for the same low fee AND study abroad! CSU Stanislaus was recently selected as one of eight national institutions for the Global Learning for All Program, which means that international/global education is integrated into coursework as an active component.

faculty factsCSU Stanislaus employs more than 450 full-time and part-time instructors who have a passion for helping students. The Uni-versity boasts a low 19 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio. More than 80 percent of faculty hold doctorates, or an equivalent degree in their fields.

financial aidWe don’t let money stand in the way of a college education. Recently named one of America’s Best Value Colleges, CSU Stanislaus offers a top-quality education at an affordable price. Our students graduate with a debt load substantially below the national average, thanks, in part, to more than $35 million in financial aid awarded to students an-nually, with nearly $1 million of that from scholarships.

internshipsExperience gained from internships and fellowships offered at CSU Stanislaus often gives students the advantage in landing that crucial first job on their way to a lifelong career. Leading local, regional, and national companies, businesses, school districts, hospitals, social and government agencies proudly employ CSU Stanislaus graduates. And many of them began their careers as interns.

Quick Facts • Head Coach

Diljeet Taylor joined the Warrior staff in fall 2007 as the suc-

cessor to Kim Duyst, who relin-quished her coaching roles to move into an administrative po-sition. Taylor will serve as head coach of the men and women’s cross country programs, as well as the distance coach for both

the men and women’s outdoor track teams and the women’s in-door track team.

Taylor was a highly successful student-athlete at Cal State Stanislaus from 1999-2002. She brings her middle distance ex-pertise as a student-athlete and head coach to this new position. Taylor was a three-time All-American in indoor and outdoor track and field as a specialist in the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs. She set the school indoor record in the 800-meter in 2002. That same year she finished second at the NCAA National Champion-ship meet and finished her career second on the outdoor track all-time list in both the 800- and 1,500-meter events.

She was named Cal State Stanislaus Female Athlete of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2002. Taylor was also the most dominant runner for the Warriors during that time, earning Most Valuable Runner from 2000-2002. She also served as team captain for the Warriors for two years.

Taylor graduated from Cal State Stanislaus in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies. She graduated with cum laude honors.

From 2004-2006 Taylor spent time training with Nike’s Farm Elite Team, an Olympic development team that makes its home at Stanford University. She served as an assistant coach to Keith Spataro at Menlo College for the past two years.

Diljeet Dosanjh Taylor, a native of Ceres, is married to former Warrior basketball player Ira Taylor. They have a son, Taj, and live in Turlock.
