The Crossroads Board of Directors would like to thank you for the overwhelming success of this year’s Gala, “An Evening on the Orient Express!” We had such a lovely evening, great food and great friends! We had wonderful service, a smooth check out; and while it was chilly and rainy outside, the fellowship of our guests kept the evening warm and inviting. We honored three remarkable artists for their contributions to Crossroads, our community and the arts – G. Ann Eriksmoen, Debbie Friedman and Nanci Sheppard. We raised critical dollars for the art center and shared our mission and the amazing work we do. In fact, as I write this we are projecting a Net Gala income over $35,000.00. As more donations, a few remaining auction items and a strong Drunken Pig Raffle, Crossroads could net close to $40,000. We are thrilled to announce that we met BOTH challenge grants set by Arlene Schnitzer to support Missoula Childrens Theatre and the care of the Carnegie Library. WOWZA! This year more than ever we needed your support of the art center, and we thank you for making it an amazing evening. A huge thank you to all the artists, donors, businesses, sponsors, community members and volunteers. Thanks to our Gala Committee: CoChair- Katie Lamb, Table Design Chair- Janet Kahn. “An Evening on the Orient Express” Annual Gala Fundraiser Wow, what a night! The Crossroads Board of Directors would like to thank you for the overwhelming success of this year’s Gala, “An Evening on the Orient Express!”

We had such a lovely evening, great food and great friends!

WOWZA! This year more than ever we

needed your support of the art center, and we thank you for making it an amazing evening.

A huge thank you to all the artists, donors, businesses, sponsors, community members and volunteers.

Thanks to our Gala Committee: CoChair- Katie Lamb, Table Design Chair- Janet Kahn. Committee Members: Marlene Prowell, Megan McGuinness, Charlene Chase, Farrah Chastain and Lori Wood. Helpers: Beth Grimes, Gail Duman, the ladies of Recovery Village, Powder River Correctional, Baker High National Society, Shannon Downing, Kathy Myers, Kitty Jury, the students from Missoula Children’s Theatre.

Crossroads staff: Kristin Hauter and Karen Owen and the Crossroads Board of Directors.

In the Gallery November featured artist Paul Hoelscher debuted his latest ink paintings at Crossroads titled “Out Under the Sky” a sharing of new art that is inspired by Oriental ink-painting and drawing. The works are expressions of Paul’s own observations of life and notes and references from his sketchbooks, and other visual fuel. The images are intended to be quiet and spacious and inviting. Paul is a professional

artist and art instructor from Baker City, Oregon. He teaches drawing and painting, and beginning ceramics through open studios for children and adults at the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker City. Paul’s exhibit will be on display through November 18th and is kindly sponsored by Betty’s Books, Ryder Brothers and Tawny’s Toys.

speCIaL thanKsWith gratitude and thanks to Mickey Edwards, George Keister, Mary Sue Rightmire, Stan Smith, Kelly Trone and Sandy Zimmer, the gallery committee members in November for helping to create a wonderful exhibition of Paul’s work and sales gallery art work. I couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you to Travis Short, our November First Friday live music entertainment, he is new to Crossroads and we’re thankful for his time, originality and talent. We hope to have him back in the spring!

The exhibit is a community favorite and artist are invited to show their work! We are looking for fine art, fine crafts in all 2-D and 3-D media of high quality. This is a great opportunity to sell your artwork to a wider audience seeking unique, locally created artwork to purchase as gifts. Show dates are November 24 through December 30. Opening reception is Friday November 24th 5:30 - 8pm. There is no entry fee for the show and all items must be available for sale. Please see show details and the art entry form on Crossroads website under “quick forms” link; Christmas at Crossroads 2017. Call to ArtistsCrossroads currently has three new exciting call to artists! One being “Cascadia” - A Traveling Photography Exhibit, with a looming submission deadline of November 30, 2017. The exhibit is open to Oregon Photographers only, has cash prizes totaling $4,000, with a people’s choice award of $500 to be awarded at each of the three venues. The goal of the exhibit is to interpret the authentic Oregon experience, and to challenge artists to look at the urban / rural divide through their lenses and show us stories about our similarities, rather than our differences. We chose the word “Cascadia” as a reference to the Cascadia Subduction Zone which stretches the entire length of the Oregon Coast, as well as further north and south. It is this fault line that is the source of much of the volcanic activity that created the Oregon Landscape and the Cascades, which have traditionally been the dividing line of our state. In fact, it is a very long, sloping subduction zone that separate the Explorer, Juan de Fuca and Gorda Plates from the North American Plate - The Cascadia Subduction zone is where the two plates meet. It is at “Cascadia” where Oregon Meets.

The traveling exhibit will open April 6th, 2018 at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center and will travel to The Dalles Public Library in May of 2018 for one month, and to Oregon State University in Corvallis in July 2018 for one month; exact dates to be announced. All of the exhibit details can be found on our website under “quick forms” link; Cascadia - Call to Artists. Cascadia Photography exhibition funded by The Ford Family Foundation Visual Arts Grant.
