• Ground the unit: The unit contains parts that maybe damaged by static discharge. A proper earthground connected to the lower left grounding screw(see page 15 for more information) will significantlyreduce the chances of damage or improperoperation. The shielding in the cables specified for allremote sensors and controls should also beconnected to the earth ground at the unit’s cabinetend of the cable only. Damage caused by staticdischarge is not covered by warranty.

• Use a dedicated power source: The outlet(s) youplug the Chamberlain provided transformer or a DCpower supply should each be wired to their owncircuit breaker. The optional CCTV must be pluggedinto a separate outlet. This will reduce line noiseintroduced into system power and minimize the riskof having other equipment interrupt unit operation. Each unit and any door strikes must have their ownindividual transformer.

• Do not overload the terminal blocks: Strandedwire MUST be between 16 and 24 AWG. Solid wireMUST be 18-24 AWG. If two wires are being used inone terminal block, the thickness MUST fall withinthese ranges. NEVER try to insert more than twowires per terminal.

• Ensure good connections: A light tug on the wirewill tell you if the connection is secure.

• Read the markings carefully: Before making anyconnections, be sure to read the markings and checkit against the corresponding figure in theseinstructions for enhanced clarity.

The unit can monitor the position of one entrance and will react to a change in the door’s status (Relay #2must be set as a shunt, alarm or CCTV relay, it cannot be set as a control relay). For example, if a door isheld open after the relay deactivates or is pried open. The unit can:

• Call the main residence telephone and report the status of the door.• Close Relay #2 to activate a device such as a light, CCTV camera or siren.

NOTE: You must enable the Alarm Call feature, see the Keypad Programming manual for information.

The typeand length of the earth ground rods vary by region.Contact the building inspector's office in themunicipality where you plan to install the unit forcorrect grounding materials and installationprocedures.

• Before digging, contact local underground utilitylocating companies.

• Avoid damaging gas, power or other undergroundutility lines.

• Do not ground the unit to a pedestal post(gooseneck) if one is used.

WIRING POWER TO THE UNITThe 110 Vac outlet must be dedicated to the unit only. Thisoutlet should be wired back to its own 10 Amp minimumcircuit breaker. This will prevent two problems:

1. Other equipment cannot introduce spikes, noise, surges,or dips into the power circuit.

2. The system’s operation will not be affected if any otherequipment develops a short circuit across the powerline.

Connect the transformer into a 110 Vac outlet after allconnections have been made, any other type of outlet willcause damage to the system.

FCC REQUIREMENTS

DOC REQUIREMENTS

The system complies with Part 68 of the FCC Rules. The label affixed to this equipment contains, among otherinformation, the FCC Registration Number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for this equipment. You must, uponrequest, provide this information to your telephone company.

The REN is useful to determine the quantity of devices you may connect to your telephone line and still have all of thosedevices ring when your telephone number is called. In most, but not all areas, the sum of the RENs of all devicesconnected to one line should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices you may connect to your line,as determined by the REN, you should contact your local telephone company. They will tell you what the maximum RENis for your calling area.

The following jacks must be ordered from the telephone company in order to interconnect this equipment with the publiccommunication network: None.

If your system causes harm to the telephone network, the Telephone Company may discontinue your servicetemporarily. If possible, they will notify you in advance. If advance notice is not practical, you will be notified as soon aspossible. You will be informed of your right to file a complaint with the FCC.

Your Telephone Company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations or procedures that could affect theproper functioning of your equipment. If they do you will be notified, in advance, to give you an opportunity to maintainuninterrupted telephone service.

Connections to party lines are subject to state tariffs. Contact your local telephone company if you plan to use thisequipment on party lines.

This equipment cannot be used on public coin service lines provided by the telephone company.

NOTICE: The Canadian Department of Communications label identifies certified equipment. This certification means thatthe equipment meets certain telecommunications network protective, operational, and safety requirements. TheDepartment does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user's satisfaction.

Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the localTelecommunications Company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. Insome cases, the company's inside wiring associated with single line individual service may be extended by means of acertified connector assemble (telephone extension cord). The customer should be aware that compliance with the aboveconditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.

Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized Canadian maintenance facility designated by thesupplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give thetelecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.

Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe unit, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important inrural areas.

Caution: Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electricinspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate.

The Load Number (LN) assigned to each terminal device denotes the percentage of the total load to be connected to atelephone loop which is used by the device, to prevent overloading. The termination on a loop may consist of anycombination of devices subject only to the requirement that the total of the Load Numbers of all the devices does notexceed 100. The Load Number for the unit is 3.
