Vibratory SystemThe pod-style vibratory system, proven reliable on previous soil compactors, deliverssuperior compactive force while offering serviceability advantages.

Pod-style weight housings. They are assembled and sealed at the factory to ensure cleanliness, longerbearing life and easier field exchange or service.

Machine ControlThe exclusive dual pump propel system provides proven superior performance and machinecontrol.

Propel pump system. The dual propel pump system hasdedicated pumps to independently drive the heavy-duty,high-torque rear wheel and drum motors. Should loss oftraction to either motor occur, there is always hydraulicflow to the non-spinning motor, allowing continuoustractive effort.

Controllability. Controllability gives the operatorcomplete machine control to stop, maintain machineposition and change directions while on a slope,especially useful on loose underfoot conditions.

Pressure valve. The pressure override (POR) valve limitsmaximum system pressure by de-stroking the propelpumps. This reduces pump flow while maintaining system pressure. This lowers the horsepower draw while accelerating the machine which saves fuel.

Rear VisibilityThe one-piece sloped fiberglass hood design provides exceptional operator visibility andexcellent service access.

Visibility. The line of sight to the tire edges and rear ofmachine is exceptional. Operator can see obstaclesmeasuring 1 meter high located 1 meter to the rear of themachine. Fenders have been narrowed, as has the rearbumper. Excellent visibility increases productivity whenworking near obstructions or maneuvering around the jobsite.

Lockable engine hood. The one-piece lockable enginehood opens quickly and easily with the use of two sets ofgas struts, providing unrestricted access to the engine,cooling system, and all service points.

Sound levels. Low sound levels due to hood design andimproved cooling air flow through the rear mountedradiator, lowering sound levels for the operator and theground crew.

Spacious and comfortable environment. Large windowswith more glass added to the rear of cab provideexceptional visibility. Generous interior space withstorage areas, excellent ergonomics, and low sound levels.

Fully equipped cab. Items included with cab include twoexterior rear view mirrors, two front-facing and two rear-facing working lights, front and rear windshield wipers,slide-open side windows and climate control with heaterand defroster. New foot rests added to the floor of the cabprovide sure footing and greater operator comfort. Thecab is now pre-wired for the addition of a radio set (radionot included). A 12-volt outlet has been added forpowering personal communication devices.

Air conditioning option. The cab can be fitted with airconditioning for increased operator comfort.

ROPS/FOPS CanopyErgonomic design promotes maximum operator productivity while offering excellentvisibility and unmatched comfort.

Operational gauges. Steering console and instrumentationgauges are infinitely adjustable within the tilt range to the desired position of the operator. Entire console tilts for simple entrance and exit.

Single lever control. The single lever control for propel and vibratory On/Off provides simple and low effort operation. A padded adjustable wrist restprovides comfort.

Seat. The comfortable and durable seat has adjustablefore/aft position, bottom cushion height, suspension stiff-ness and flip-up arm rests with a 76 mm wide retractableseat belt. Optional rotating seat is available.

Operator’s station. The isolated operator’s station withfour heavy-duty rubber mounts limits machine vibrationtransmitted to the operator’s station.

Floor mat. Floor mat provides sure footing and helpsfurther isolate the operator from machine vibration andnoise.

Optimized Cooling Air Flow Improved air flow design minimizes dust clouds and eliminates hot air discharge onoperator.

Optimized air flow. Pulls cool air from the middle of thehood and discharges hot air out the rear.

Operator comfort. Hot air directed away from operatorprevents hot air from blowing on operator, improvingoperator comfort and productivity.

Improved operator visibility. Minimized dust cloudsbecause discharged air is not directed towards ground anddoes not contribute to the production of dust clouds.

Padfoot Drum and ScrapersPadfoot drums provide superior performance when compacting clays. Heavy-duty scrapersbreak materials away from the drum surface to allow for deep penetration of the padfeet.

Padfoot drum. The padfoot drum has 140 pads welded onthe drum in a chevron arrangement.

Maximum compaction. Standard round pad is 127 mmhigh with a pad face surface area of 89.4 cm2 for highground contact pressure and maximum compaction.Tapered, self-cleaning design allows pads to walk out ofthe lift without fluffing or “kicking up” the soil around thepads.

High ground contact pressure. Optional square pad is 100 mm high with a pad face surface area of 140 cm2. The shorter pad height and larger surface area provideshigh ground contact pressure. The square pads and drumalso produce a sealed surface finish that prevents moisturefrom penetrating.

Heavy-duty scraper. The scraper design features wide,individually adjustable and replaceable scrapers mountedon the front and rear of the drum. Reduces excessivematerial build-up between the pads.

Padfoot Shell KitOptional padfoot shell kit enhances machine versatility and productivity, allowing it to workin either cohesive or semi-cohesive material.

Versatility and utilization. Expands machine versatilityand utilization while providing a simple and cost-effective solution for jobs that may require both padfootand smooth drum compaction.

Dual-purpose bumper. The bumper included with theshell kit does not need to be removed. This bumper canalso accept the optional leveling blade which increasesmachine versatility even further. Bumper providesconvenient, bolt-on storage for smooth drum scraperplates when they are not being used.

Scrapers for smooth drum kit. Scrapers for smooth drumkit are provided. New shell kit scraper design providesbetter debris-removal performance.

Padfoot shell halves. Padfoot shell halves can be quicklyand easily installed or removed in about an hour with theuse of an approved lifting device.

AccuGrade™ Compaction for Soil CompactorsAccuGrade Compaction GPS Mapping and Measurement for Soil Compactors turns youroperator into a soil compaction expert.

GPS Mapping and Measurement. Senses soil compaction as itworks and correlates the data with the GPS position of themeasurement. These capabilities improve work quality whilelowering owning and operating costs, reducing necessarymanpower, and optimizing productivity.

Drum-mounted accelerometer. Measures drum movement tosense compaction levels of the soil.

Controller package. Converts accelerometer measurements toCaterpillar Compaction Values (CCVs), which provideindications of soil stiffness to the operator.

GPS receiver. Determines the 3-dimensional position of thesoil compactor drum by triangulation between severalsatellites. The unit houses the receiver and a GPS antenna allin one unit, so there is only one fixture to deploy.

Angle sensor. Mounts to the base of the mast. The instrumentmeasures the left/right tilt of the drum to a range of ±45˚. Thisinformation is sent to the display unit’s processor to providegreater positional accuracy.

Radio. Mounted on the cab of the machine to ensure maximumsignal reception. The radio receives real-time CompactMeasurement Record (CMR) data from the GPS base stationradio for calculating high-accuracy GPS positions. Radiobroadcast frequencies work in all weather conditions. Theradio can also provide a two-way wireless radio networkbetween the machine and a site office computer runningAccuGrade Office software. Compaction data from the displayunit can be transferred to the job site computer for dataanalysis.

CD700 Graphic LCD display unit. Rugged and waterproofCD700 display consolidates position, compaction, andoperational data in a single, intuitive interface located at theoperator’s fingertips. It also houses a powerful processor. Thedisplay collects data from the GPS receiver, the angle sensor,and the compaction measurement system. It converts the datainto values, displays the values to the operator, and saves thevalues on removable storage media.

Mast. Designed to position the GPS receiver over the center ofthe drum. The mast deploys hydraulically with a hand pump.When not in use, the mast folds into a secure storage position,making ground-level removal of the receiver easy. The mastincludes all electrical wiring and harnesses.

The system provides documentation that compactionspecifications have been met on a one-to-one basis, reducingthe need for costly and time consuming testing. AccuGradeCompaction can eliminate the need for proof rollers on certainjobs.

Transmission

Two variable displacement pistonpumps supply pressurized flow to twodual displacement piston motors. Onepump and motor drives the drum propelsystem while the other pump and motordrives the rear wheels. The dual pumpsystem ensures equal flow to the drivemotors regardless of the operatingconditions. In case the drum or wheelslose traction, the other motor can stillbuild pressure to provide added torque.The drive motors have two swashplatepositions allowing operation at eithermaximum torque for compaction andgradeability or greater speed for movingaround the job site. A rocker switch atthe operator’s console triggers anelectric over hydraulic control to changespeed ranges.

Forward Roll Over ProtectiveStructure/Falling Object ProtectiveStructure (ROPS/FOPS). Canopy is afour-post structure that bolts directlyonto flanges welded to the operatorplatform. Frame

Fabricated from heavy gauge steel plateand rolled sections and joined to thedrum yoke at the articulation pivot.Articulation area is structurallyreinforced and joined by hardened steelpins. One vertical pin provides asteering angle of ± 34° and a horizontalpin allows frame oscillation of ± 15°.Safety lock prevents machinearticulation when placed in the lockedposition. Sealed-for-life hitch bearingsnever need maintenance. Frame alsoincludes tie-down points for transport.

Instrumentation

Electronic Control Module (ECM)constantly monitors condition of theengine, and alerts the operator if aproblem does occur with three levels ofwarning. Warning system includes:Action Alarm and Lamp, Low EngineOil Pressure, High Engine CoolantTemperature, High Hydraulic OilTemperature, Low Charge Pressure,Starting Aid and High Combustion AirTemperature. Roll Over Protective Structure/FallingObject Protective Structure(ROPS/FOPS) Canopy. A four-poststructure that bolts directly onto flangeswelded to the operator platform. Thestructure meets SAE J1040 May94, SAEJ231 Jan81, ISO 3449-1992 and ISO3471-1994.

ROPS/FOPS Cab. Includes a clothsuspension seat, one access door, tintedsafety glass windows, electric wipersfront and rear, heater/defroster, twovertically sliding side windows forventilation, rear view mirrors, two front-facing and two rear-facing workinglights, interior dome light, and coathook. New foot rests have been added tothe floor of the cab for sure footing andgreater operator comfort. More rearglass has been added to provide evengreater rear visibility to the operator.The cab is now pre-wired for theaddition of a radio set (radio notincluded). A 12 volt outlet is standard insome markets, available as an option inothers. Other options include cab liftcylinder, air conditioning, sun visor,roll-down sun screen and internal rearview mirrors. Cab is fully EROPS ratedand meets ISO 3449-1992 and ISO3471-1994.

Leveling Blade. Designed to bolt ontothe drum yoke of the CS76, CP76 andCS76 XT. Complete unit includesheavy-duty blade, reversible/replaceablecutting edges, replaceable wear plates, a heavy-duty hydraulic lift cylinder andfoot operated control valve. Moldboardis constructed of heavy-duty steel.

Two-Piece Padfoot Shell Kit. Bolts ontothe smooth drum CS76 and CS76 XT.Features 90 mm high pads. Includesheavy-duty scraper teeth and a specialbumper that provides a secure area tostore smooth drum scraper plates whennot in use. Each shell half weighs 810 kg.

Transmission Guard. Consists of a heavyplate which covers the rear axle, axledrive motor and input gearbox.

Smooth Drum Rear Steel Scraper.Mounted at the rear of the drum.

AccuGrade™ Compaction.GPS Mapping and Measurement.Assists the operator in determining thecompaction level of a soil material andmaps the results using AccuGrade GPSmapping systems. Includes graphicdisplay, GPS receiver and mast, radio,accelerometer, and cables. AccuGradeOffice software available separately.

Flexible Drum Scrapers. Flexible DrumScrapers are designed for use withsmooth drum models. Mounted at thefront and rear of drum. They are made ofpolyurethane and are designed to contactthe drum, cleaning debris from the drumsurface.

Vibration Auto On/Off. Vibration systemswitches on/off automatically.

Variable Frequency. Allows the operatorto vary drum frequency.

VPM Gauge. Mounted on the console,this gauge displays the actual vibratorysystem frequency.

Speedometer

Recording Module. Provides a visualgauge for reading worktime, machinespeed, distance covered and amplitudeselection.

Compaction Indicator A30 RMV.Includes compaction meter value gaugeand RMV indicator.

Compaction Indicator with AnalogDisplay. Includes Volkel AnalogCompaction Display (ACD) compactionmeter.

Operator Platform Lift Cylinder. Featuresa hydraulic cylinder to raise and lowerthe operator’s platform for easier accessto the hydraulic pumps.
