Guide Content This California Spanish Assessment (CSA) practice items scoring guide offers details about the items, student response types, correct responses, and related scoring considerations for the included samples of practice items. The items selected for the practice test are designed to reflect the following:
• A broad coverage of claims that closely mirror the CSA summative blueprint
• A broad coverage of California Common Core State Standards en Español (CCCSSeE) for the claims assessed by the CSA, i.e., Reading, Listening, and Writing Mechanics
• A range of student response types
• A breadth of difficulty levels across the items, ranging from easier to more difficult items
It is important to note that all student response types are not fully represented on every practice test, but a distribution can be observed across all the practice tests. The items presented are reflective of refinements and adjustments to content based on pilot test results and expert recommendations from a content perspective. The samples cover a selection of items from grade six. The following information is presented along with each item:
• Grade Level: The intended grade level of the item
• Claim: The reporting category of the evidence being gathered
• Content Category: Further information regarding the content being assessed
• Standard: A reference to the assessable evidence statements of what students should know and be able to do
• Max. Points: The total number of available points for the item
• Item and Stimulus: A representation of the item and any associated stimulus
• Answer Key: The expected student response or example response including score point value
Each item is aligned with a specific CCCSSeE, but some items may align with two CCCSSeE, specifically the Listening items. Listening items have a primary standard that aligns with one of two CCCSSeE at each grade level. They also have a secondary standard aligning with a Reading standard to provide consistency in content between the Listening and Reading claims, known collectively as the interpretive domains. Composite items contain a Part A and Part B; when those parts assess separate standards, primary and secondary standards are provided. Each item that follows has metadata as shown in the following table. The item number in the table preceding each sample item corresponds to the sequence number of the item as it appears in the practice test. If the wording of the standard includes “CA” at the end, it is a standard with wording specific to California for both English and Spanish language arts.

(Los demás echan a correr por la arena. Susana tropieza y cae de boca, pero pronto se levanta, se sacude la arena y sigue corriendo. Todos se amontonan alrededor de un bulto que se mueve).
DANIEL. —(Mirando alrededor para localizar un nido). Es una cría de pájaro. Pobrecita, se debe de haber caído de algún nido.
LAURA. —Vamos a necesitar una caja para llevárnosla a casa y darle de comer. Alberto, ve a casa y pídele a tu madre una caja y algunas servilletas de papel.
(Alberto se queda mirando al pobre pajarillo un breve momento y sale corriendo. Dos minutos más tarde, regresa casi sin aliento con una caja entre las manos. Con mucho cuidado, envuelve a la cría en las servilletas y la coloca dentro de la caja. Los niños salen del escenario siguiendo a Laura, que lleva la caja en brazos con mucho cuidado. Se cierra el telón).
ACTO III
(Los niños están reunidos alrededor de la mesa del comedor, muy concentrados en la caja colocada en el centro de la mesa. Adela y Carla supervisan que los niños le den a la cría pequeñas migajas de pan y gotas de agua con un gotero. Entran Juan y Roberto).
JUAN. —¿Qué tenemos por aquí? Vaya, vaya… ¡Pero si es una cría de gaviota!
(Todos los niños empiezan a hablar al mismo tiempo, queriendo explicar el hallazgo).

Con estos binoculares, busquemos alrededor de la zona donde encontraron a la cría. Las gaviotas construyen los nidos en lugares bajos, cerca de la vegetación. Si encontramos el nido, podremos devolver esta cría a su madre.
(Roberto y los tres niños salen del escenario mientras los más pequeños continúan alimentando a la cría de gaviota. Al poco tiempo, vuelven corriendo al escenario).

ROBERTO. —Les voy a contar un secreto… Cuando yo tenía 12 años, solía salir con mis amigos a estudiar con mis binoculares todo lo que hacían los pájaros. ¿Les gustaría hacer algo así?
TODOS. —¡Sí!
ALBERTO. —Pero no tenemos más que un par de binoculares, tío.
JUAN. —Eso se arregla muy fácilmente, hijo. Mañana por la mañana iremos al pueblo más cercano y buscaremos binoculares en el mercadillo. También hay libros sobre los pájaros que habitan en la Playa Ventura. Así podrán saber los nombres de los pájaros que observan y cuáles son sus hábitos.

(1) ¿Quién no recuerda a Caperucita roja preguntándole al lobo disfrazado de abuela: «abuelita, ¿por qué tienes esos ojos tan grandes?» y este le contesta: «¡Para verte mejor!»? (2) La vista es uno de los sentidos más importantes para algunos animales, ya que dependen de esta en la vida diaria para ir por ahí caminando, para ver lo que hay alrededor de ellos y para encontrar comida.
(3) Aunque las características de los ojos varían entre los animales, todos los ojos cumplen la misma fumción básica: detectan la luz para convertirla en señales elétricas, pero de maravillosas y variadas maneras. (4) _____, en el reino animal se pueden encontrar ojos de diferentes tamaños, formas y colores. (5) Entre los animales con “ojos extraordinarios” se encuentran: el calamar gigante, el camaleón y la libélula.
(6) El calamar gigante se lleva el premio a los ojos más grandes. (7) ¡Son tan grandes como un balón de baloncesto! En medio hay una plaza muy bonita donde la gente se sienta a descansar y donde también se presentan eventos especiales. El día que fuimos pudimos ver a un grupo que tocaba solamente tambores.
