Executive summary:
In this report we analyse the life of student who are the non resident of Lahore. First of all
we make some questionnaire regarding the life of student whose are the non resident of
Lahore. On the questionnaire we asked the questions mostly related to their expectation,
problems and delights. On summarizing the whole report we came to know the many
problems of hostel life that students are facing in daily routine and reason of these problems.
Since accommodation in hostels is limited, the University Authorities may not be able to
provide accommodation to all applicants. The Accommodation will be offered to the eligible
applicants subject to availability.
Students seeking admission to a hostel should apply through the Head of Institution on the
prescribed form (along with four passport size photographs duly signed by the Head of
Institution), which can be obtained from the Office of the Provost Superior University.
Admission in the hostel will be strictly on merit basis. Out station students who are not
residents of Lahore will be given first priority. Those students, whose hostel admission has

been cancelled because of misbehavior/misconduct, violation of hostel rules, involvement in
undesirable activities, and misrepresentation, shall not be eligible for hostel admission.
After admission to a hostel the students shall come under the direct supervision of the Hostel
Administration for the purposes of residence and its discipline. The Hostel Administration
has the right to refuse admission to a student whose past conduct in the hostel was not
satisfactory.
A student who fails to occupy the allotted accommodation within seven days of the allotment
or a student after occupying the hostel seat deliberately leaves or vacates it without the
knowledge of the Warden, shall forfeit his / her seat.
We took the interview of non-resident students because they know more about the
expectations, problems and delight of hostel life than other students. On asking from students
who live in hostels, they gave very good and positive remarks about their expectation,
problems and delights. Some students said that they are satisfied with their expectations but
also problems occur sometimes that makes them dishearten to live in hostels. When they
were asked about hostel management performance, they seemed a little bit confusing. They
replied that management sometime behave very critical, when we speak about any issue.
Then we asked an-other student of non-resident of Lahore. When we interviewed him and
asked him about their expectations of hostel life, he figured out some problems about the
lack of finance. Then he was asked about the mess, he replied that their performance is not-
well. He told that their cooking method is bad and not satisfactory at all and also they closed
mess in the last week of every month.
Then we asked some questions regarding security, transports, hostile environment, He
explain many problems regarding these issues. He said the management of hostel is not co-

operative. The transport facilities are very bad in Lahore city. But however they are
struggling very hard to reach their school, colleges and universities in time.
And after the interviews we gave our questionnaire to fill it. On that we observed that most
students are not satisfied about the hostel life, they mention some problems and their
expectations.
Introduction:
This report is about the non resident students of Lahore, to take their opinion about the
university hostel and the problems they are facing. The aim of this report is to mention the
opinion about the university hostel and the problems they are facing. This report also shows
expectation of the student from the hostel life. This will also give suggestions and
recommendations for the problems of hostel students. This research is conducted which is
assigned by the teacher.
Many facilities that can provide to the students who are non-residence of Lahore, but also
they face some problems in their daily routine. This report is going to be made on the basis
of observation gathered from the relevant students. This report contains all the concerning
issues related to the non resident students of Lahore, to take their opinion about the
university hostel and the problems they are facing.
HOSTEL OFFICIALS:
PROVOST
The University Hostels located on the Campus of the University shall be under the control of
the Provost.
The Provost shall convene meetings of the Wardens and Assistant Wardens from time to
time to discuss matters concerning the affairs of the hostels and to make suitable
recommendations for (implementation etc.) smooth functioning of the hostels.

The Warden shall also consult the Hostel Authorities while proposing a fine exceeding
Rs.500/- on a resident for breach of regulation or discipline.
The Warden shall be provided with rent-free accommodation in the hostel and shall be
entitled to an honorarium to be fixed by the University Authorities.
HOSTEL DUES
The following dues will be charged per resident for one academic year/session to be paid in
advance at the time of admission. The payment will be made in the Accounts Section of the
superior University.

HOSTEL EMPLOYEES:
The Head Bearer will be fully responsible for efficient working of the staff under him/her
and the safety of the hostel property. He/she will keep in his/her own charge the hostel
crockery, utensils, electric equipments and other items and will report the loss, if any, to the
Warden.
The cook will be personally responsible for general cleanliness in the kitchen and for the
safety and hygienically fit cooked food. He will not allow either outsiders or the students,
except members of the Mess Committee, to visit the kitchen. He will alone be held
responsible for the receipt of deficient or defective cooking substance.

Discussion:
After getting fulfilling the questionnaire we now able to discuss the problems regarding to
the non resident students of Lahore, to take their opinion about the university hostel and the
problems they are facing.
At the start we try to take interview from the students of all dept who are living in the hostel.
After taking interviews we observed that all students are not fully satisfied by the hostel life
and also they mention some problems. They said there management and instructors are not
good. The management should be professional and try to solve their problems. Because when
they take their problems to the management they do not even bother to listen to them. The
students are unhappy only with the management of the hostel because they are not getting
any response from them. After discussing with them we came to know that there is not one
problem they are facing there is a food problem as its not hygienic and also the quality of
the food is not that good.
SPECIAL REGULATION FOR FEMALE HOSTEL:Important: The female boarders shall reach their hostels from their respective Institutions
after their studies.

matter worse by future congesting the dining hall, resulting in less availability of food. This
cause deficiency of food for the participants as well as for the local students.
DISCIPLINE :
Residents shall abide by the Hostel Regulations. Violation of any regulation or order issued
by the Hostel Authority shall render a resident liable to disciplinary action including
expulsion from the hostel.
The Warden shall deal with and process all cases of indiscipline or breach of regulations and
orders relating to the hostel affairs.
The Warden may impose a fine amounting to Rs.500/- and expulsion from the hostel will
require the approval of the Disciplinary Committee.
Residents shall keep their rooms neat and clean. The Senior Wardens will inspect the rooms
periodically. Weekly inspection of the residents rooms will be carried out by the Assistant
Warden, fortnightly by the Warden, and surprise check up by the Provost. Residents shall not
be allowed to keep weapons, arms, ammunition, and intoxicants. Similarly guests/visitors
with any type of arms shall not be allowed to visit a hostel.
Possession of TV, VCR/VCD, Air Conditioner, Air Cooler, Refrigerator, Decks, Valuable,
cash money in the hostel is a breach of regulation and liable to strict disciplinary action/fine.
No society or club can be formed in the hostel without the permission of the Hostel
Authorities. No resident shall be allowed to take part or indulge in any sort of political
activities, meetings, invitation to political figures, and other related functions in the hostel or
in the hostel premises.
The warden or any other University Authority is not responsible for the loss of any cash and
other valuable of residents in the hostel unless these are handed over to them for safe
custody.
Keys of the rooms allotted to the residents, shall remain in the custody of those residents and
shall not be handed over to anyone without the permission of the Warden.
All cases of indiscipline in the Hostels will be dealt by the Disciplinary Committee of
Superior University.

When we ask the student, are you satisfied with the facilities provided to you in the hostels
then 50% syudent say yes and 50% says no.

When we ask about security matter then 45% say yes security is good and 55% says security
is bad in the hostel.

When we ask about the quality of mess only 41% says they are satisfied with the quality of
mess and remaining says quality of mess is so bad.

Interpretation:
When we ask about that while studying you faces any problem than 85% says yes and
remaining 15% says no.
Conclusion:
There is a need for changes in the hostels as students are getting very tensed by the Situation
because they are also very far from their homes. As they are not happy where they are living
they not been able to concentrate on their studies. Several necessary actions had to be taken
like management should reach each and every student whos living in the hostel to get to
know their problems. Also they have to sort out all the problems regarding the hostel
students. A committee should be form by the management and in that committee students are
the members because they know well what their problems are and how to solve those
problems. They should give the findings about the hostels to top management and get a clear
and concise view of them before taking some necessary actions.

We visit different hostels and meet different students and asked different questions
regarding hostel problems. They were very cooperative with us. They were not satisfied fromthe existing facilities. They also mention some problems and expectation these are under
lying.
1 There is so much noise in the hostel.
2 Lack of finance.
3 Low quality of food.
4 Discipline.
5 Lack of security.6 There are dirty rooms.
7 Internet facility is not properly available.
8 Water is not good for drink.
9 Rooms are very few.
10 No dispensary in the hostel.
11 Lack of hot water in winter.
Expectations:
1. They expect that they should have bonding among hostel fellows.
2. They expect that there must be no restriction on listening to music.
3. They expect that when they get exhausted after studying they can rest in a calm
environment.
4. They must get a hygienic food in the mess.
5. The transport facility should be provided every time for the hostel students whenever
they needed.
6. The students of university should be allowed to enter inside the hostel for group
studies.

The higher authority should have to take strict actions regarding these problems.
Should appoint professional staff for mess and security and have check on them.
Should provide good environment to the students.
First Aid facility must be available in the hostel in case of any sudden accident.
There should be a doctor available for hostel students all the time.
There should be a separate way to enter and exit the hostel.
