It’s show time folks, "Ponies n The Park 2" May 4th. It’s like the county fair; it gets bigger and better every year!

Once again, we will have the BorderLine Band playing on the Lady A stage. Chick-fil-A & Pizza Central will be our food vendors. We will also have a vendor selling Hawaiian Shaved Ice & cotton candy. Augusta Bottling (Coke) will have their trailer on site, donating their products.

Borla Exhaust has plans to have a display tent and donate a complete exhaust system to our club for our silent auction. MGW also will be on hand showing their shifter products. Tint Masters of Augusta will be doing a demo of the different styles they offer. Acme Apparel will be on site selling Ford merchandise and I hear they might have a surprise in store for us.

Our tee shirt sponsors came through again this year; the shirts will be sold at a 100% profit!

Several sponsors came aboard at the Gold level giving us $200 each: Cushman Paint & Body, CSRA Lawn  & Sprinkler Care, Tint Masters of Augusta, and Heath Center Credit Union.

Fairway Ford, our main sponsor, gave us $2,000.00 to pay for our awards.

Please remember our sponsors. If you have a chance to do business with any on them be sure to let them know how important they are to our club.

The May 2nd, meeting will be held at Evans Towne Center Park and as we did last year, the club will provide pizza/drinks and we will go over last minute details for the show. Help will be needed packing goodie bags and marking off the site for parking. We will eat at 6;30 , please bring folding chairs.

We still need help at our silent auction table. If anyone has items for the show please bring them to the meeting.

Take me out to the ballgame!

Make plans to attend “Mustang Day” at Olmstead Stadium on June 23. The Augusta Greenjackets have invited the CSRA Mustang Club to show off their cars before the game by parading our cars around warning track of the field and then possibly show them off afterwards. Ticket prices vary, but if we get 20 or more to attend, we can get $1 off tickets and get a Greenjackets visor. Please check emails and future newsletters for more information. I will send out a list at this months meeting to try and get a headcount. I hope that the club will be well represented. This is a good chance to show the CSRA what our club is all about!

Ford News & Notes

At the LA Auto Show Back in November Saleen announced that they would be building a 351 Mustang, with the company releasing a rendering of the proposed car. Since then the company has been relatively quiet about the project, and we were wondering if the 351 Mustang was still on. Saleen answered that question today, as they unveiled the first 351 Mustang prototype at the Fabulous Fords show at Knott’s Berry Farm in Southern California.

Although the initial 351 Mustang prototype is evidence that a production version is near, Saleen is still keeping mum on details about the car including the technical specifications of the engine. We inquired about the base for the powerplant, but were told that more specific information on the engine will be released at a later date. The only information given is that the supercharged V8 produces 700 horsepower.

The rest of the Saleen 351 Supercharged Mustang is relatively similar to the company’s other offerings including the body kit, wheels and interior appointments. However, the paint color, Orange County Orange, was specially developed for the car by Saleen.

Hopefully we’ll have more details about the 2014 Saleen 351 Supercarged Mustang soon, particularly specifics on the powertrain, but until then check out our photos of the car’s debut in the gallery below.

Happy Birthday Mustang! Forty-nine years to the day after its 1964 debut in New York, the iconic sports car celebrates another milestone: One million Mustangs have rolled off the line at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant since production moved there in 2004. Ford is celebrating this milestone as year 50 of continuous Mustang production gets under way at Flat Rock Assembly.

Raj Nair, group vice president for global product development, today rode off the line at Flat Rock Assembly Plant in a Ruby Red 2014 Mustang convertible. Nair was riding shotgun with Ed Salna, material planning and logistics manager at the plant. Salna is a 27-year veteran of Flat Rock Assembly, starting work there more than a year before the plant produced its first car.

“Mustang is one of the most beloved nameplates in the industry, with fans around the world and throughout Ford Motor Company,” said Nair. “The team here at Flat Rock Assembly has built an outstanding reputation for quality while producing one million Mustangs over the last nine years, and we expect that to continue for many years to come.”

Ford has built Mustangs near its home base in Dearborn, Mich. for 49 years. The car was built at Ford’s famous Rouge factory, just a few minutes from company headquarters, for four decades before moving a few miles south to Flat Rock in 2004.

Introduced in April 1964, Mustang proved to be far more popular than anyone expected, prompting Ford to add production capacity outside Michigan. By early 1965 plants in Metuchen, N.J. and San Jose, Calif. were also building Mustang. Less than two years later, on Wednesday, March 2, 1966, the one-millionth Mustang rolled off the line in Dearborn. To date, Ford has produced and sold more than 8.5 million Mustangs.

The launch of Mustang production at Flat Rock coincided with introduction of the then all-new fifth-generation model – first in the series to get a dedicated platform. In addition to the standard V6 and the V8-powered GT model, Mustangs coming out of Flat Rock Assembly Plant have included several special editions and race cars:

• In 2006 Flat Rock built a limited run of black and gold Shelby GT-H coupes for Hertz rental fleets to commemorate the 1966 Shelby GT350H rental car

• 2007 brought the debut of the Shelby GT500 Mustang developed by SVT with a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 producing 500 horsepower, the most ever for a Mustang then

• For the 2008 and 2009 model years, the Mustang lineup included the Bullitt, inspired by the car driven by the title character in the 1968 film of the same name

• For the 2012 and 2013 model years, Flat Rock built the track-optimized Boss 302• The Flat Rock line has produced numerous competition versions of Mustang including the FR500, Boss

302R and the extremely successful Cobra Jet drag racerThe Flat Rock factory has been producing vehicles since 1987, when it opened as Mazda Motor Manufacturing USA and built the Mazda MX-6. In 1992 Ford purchased a 50 percent share in the plant and it was renamed AutoAlliance International. Over the years Flat Rock Assembly has produced the Mazda 626, Mazda6, Mercury Cougar and Ford Probe. In addition to Mustang, Flat Rock will add production of the Fusion sedan later this year.

Ford is adding 1,400 jobs and a second shift at Flat Rock Assembly Plant to support new Fusion production as part of its plan to add 12,000 hourly jobs in the United States through 2015.

The Ford Mustang turns 50 years old this year, and this is the logo that will announce the milestone occasion on a special line of merchandise. The graphic is the result of an internal design competition, and Ford will give 50 different companies the license to use it on traditional logo merchandise like shirts and watches, along with some untraditional items like pinball machines.

Ford is going to begin the celebrations at the New York Auto Show and continue them throughout the year, but April 17 is the official birthday of the the pony car that just won't quit. You can expect to start seeing anniversary merchandise in the next couple of weeks.

YUK, YUK!!!!Two Virginia hunters, Bob and Fred, were going on a hunting trip. They get to where they wanted to be and started walking. After about a half hour of walking, they sit down and take a rest. Bob says to Fred" I'm not feeling to good".Fred says" well, we can walk back to the truck. Bob says" yeah lets do that.” So they start walking. About 15 minutes into the trip, Bob falls over. Fred panics and calls 911.

The operator answers and says" 911, what's your emergency?" Fred says "My friend fell over with a heart attack, I think he's dead, what do I do?” The operator says, "Well, first make sure he's dead.” Fred says, "Ok.”

The operator listens and hears a BANG!!! Fred gets back on the phone and says, "Ok. He's dead... now what?"

A man is dining in a fancy restaurant and there is a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He has been checking her out since he sat down, but lacks the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezes, and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket toward the man. He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back. “Oh my, I am so sorry,' the woman says as she pops her eye back in place. “Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you,” she says.

They enjoy a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they go to the theatre followed by drinks. They talk, they laugh, she shares her deepest dreams and he shares his. She listens. After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for breakfast in the morning. They had a wonderful, wonderful time. The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy is amazed. Everything had been SO incredible! 'You know,' he said, 'you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?'

'No,' she replies, “You just happened to catch my eye.”
