    We are taking the test in 8 days.

    We are taking the test to see

    what we learned all year.It is

    also to see what classes we will

    have next year. Our goal is to get to 711.

    The CST score levels are

    Advanced, Proficient, Basic,

    Below basic, and Far Below

    Basic.

    I prepared for the CST byreviewing what we learnedall year in class.

    Also, I have been asking

    questions in class forthings I dont understand.

    In addition, I learned a lotof great test takingstrategies.

    Lastly, I have been goingto the Academic SuperstarProgram on Saturdaysfrom 8:30-11:50.

    week on the lesson we have done.

    They review the topics that we dont

    understand very well.

    The teachers help us learn everything we

    need to know.

    the CST.

    Morning Before You should have a good night sleep.

    Also, you should eat a good and nutritious

    breakfast.

    You should arrive to school on time.

    Test Taking Tips: During the Test

    Pace yourself, dont rush.

    Read the entire question and pay attentionto the details.

    Do the easiest problems first. Dont spendso much time on the ones you are stuck on.

    Do the questions that have the greatest

    point value first. Dont worry if others finish before you. Take

    your time.

    Math Tips

    Read the whole question before doing any calculations.

    Eliminate answers that you know are wrong.

    Do the easy problems first.

    Take your time reading the word problems.

    Underline key words in the problem that are helpful.

    Read the questions before reading the story.

    Take your time reading the story.

    Highlight key terms in the story.

    Dont rush through the test.

    Eliminate all of the wrong answers.

    Changing Percents, Decimals,

    and Fractions A fraction whose denominator is 100 is called a

    percent.

    The word percent means hundredths (per

    hundred). To change decimals to percents you have to move

    the decimal point two spaces to the right.

    Insert a percent sign.

    To change percents to decimals you have toeliminate the percent sign. Then move the decimaltwo places to the left.

    Powers and Exponents

    An exponent is a positive or negative number or 0placed above and to the right of a quantity.

    It expresses the power to which the quantity is to

    be raised or lower. Squares and cubes are two specific types of

    powers that should be noted.

    To square a number, just multiply it by itself the

    way youd find the area of a square. To cube a number, just multiply it by itself twice

    the way you find the volume of a cube.

    Similes

    A simile is a figure of speech.

    It compares two things that are alike in a

    way.

    It uses the words like or as.

    A simile differs from a metaphor which

    doesnt use like or as. Similes usually compare humans with an

    object.
