3D Laser ScanningCTS provides full-service high definition 3D laser scanning that is ultra fast, reflectorless surveying used to create topographic surveys, preconstruction surveys of existing conditions, conformance surveys, as-built surveys, heritage preservation surveys, quantity/volume surveys, and to document construction accident sites. Collecting 500,000 points per second, 3D laser scanning enables CTS to capture an exact moment in time, with a precision of millimeters. Our modeling softwares fully integrate with REVIT and other BIM software. We have found 3D scanning to be effective in providing measurements for custom fit features and the development of as-built documents.

Use of 3D design tools allows engineers and architects to vividly demonstrate how a design works and allows a level of understanding previously unknown in site work construction. Collaboration and coordination with our MEP and architectural design partners is one of the most important aspects of our work. CTS’ experience in the 3D/BIM environment makes that effort much easier and yields a higher quality design.

ABout our teamFirm BackgroundCTS was founded in 2012 to provide solutions to Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Owners, and Facility Managers (AECO+FM). We are laser focused on providing reality capture technologies such as 3D Laser Scanning, Building Information Modeling, and As-Built Solutions to deliver better building and construction projects.

We support pre-development, pre-construction, commercial, residential, and industrial environments to rapidly as-built facilities and produce high-confidence, survey-grade as-built documents and models. We verify millions of points a second, to millimeter accuracy, in hours not days.

CTS provided 3D Laser Scanning services for the development of a 1,850,000 sf, 68,500 seat sports arena.

We performed as-builts of pre and post pour concrete walls and decks for flatness and plumb, and also by analyzing post pour scan data we were also able to provide a deliverable verifying flatness and level of concrete floors as well as the deflection in structural beams and pan decking.

This became a “digital concrete core” to show the thickness of the poured concrete deck and provide verification for the Owner, Sub and General Contractor.

After years of searching for a new downtown location for the Sacramento King’s Arena, the team worked with the City of Sacramento to develop a new arena in the heart of the city. The new arena is located on the site of a former major shopping mall in downtown Sacramento.

CTS is providing 3D Laser Scanning Services for the project. Our scanning crews worked with the general contractor, architect, and structural engineer on scanning the exterior of the structure as pieces were installed to maintain and compress schedule, as well as quality assurance of pre-fabricated custom exterior panels manufactured from the BIM.

CTS provided high definition survey and 3D laser scanning to correct seismic deficiencies in buildings 1, 6 and 8, replace building 12 with a new research building (67,500 to 82,500 sf), addition of a new 250 space parking structure, addition of 25,000 sf modular building and the renovation of 12,000 sf of space at various sites on the campus.

The laser scanning consisted of a 3D building document (as-built drawings) for Buildings 1, 6 and 8 and included a 3D model in Revit 2012.

Engineering services by our parent company SANDIS also included: design narrative for civil related site utilities (sanitary sewer, storm drain and water); fire hydrant testing for static and residual pressure; storm water management control plan; demolition plan; grading and drainage plans; utility plan; erosion control plan; and technical specifications. Services for the 25,000 modular building included: demolition plan; grading and drainage plan; utility plan; erosion control plan; storm water management plan; and technical specifications.

APPLE CAMPUS 2

CTS is working with Apple, Rudolph & Sletten, Holder Construction, Foster + Partners, and a variety of engineering consultants in order to provide daily and on-going 3D laser scanning and as-built BIM services for the new Apple Campus 2 during construction.

CTS has also been selected as the Siteworks BIM management consultant to manage contractors, trades and partners weekly submittal of as-built BIM data.

As part of the safety contract, CTS designed the system of as-built data submittal through an online portal, monitors and releases weekly progress models, links model objects to as-built data submittal forms for document control purposes, and trains construction staff to use the model for safe surface and subsurface digging procedure.

The complexity of new utilities needed to service the 176 acre site CTS has also provided modeling and clash detection services of utility systems. Our team takes the data from each civil drawing and imports it into a 3D model where utility conflicts can be seen and resolved before construction begins.

3D Scanning ExperienceBing Concert HallStanford UniversityCTS provided High definition survey/3D laser scan for the development of a 112,000 sf, 844 seat performing arts facility. Scanning was conducted to ensure a precise measurement for the installation of the ceiling “clips and sails.” Deliverables included: raw scan and image data, scan metadata, project metadata, control information, registration information for all raw scans (tied to the site coordinate system), digital images of scanning scenes, registered scan data, and point clouds.

Centennial Recreation Center Photovoltaic Solar Power Generation SystemsMorgan HillCTS provided a rooftop topographic survey and 3D laser scan for the installation of a solar photovoltaic system. The intent of the system is to provided needed energy to operate the 54,000 sf that does not exceed the facilities energy requirements.
