CTS in teaching for tomorrow

Aspiring for Teaching Excellence

Page 2: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Allahهلالج لج’s formula for teaching

Disseminating real knowledge

Page 3: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Our Challenge as Teachers

1. Bring Allahهلالج لج into the class2. Introduce the Creator to His slaves3. Teach them that success lies in obedience

to Allahهلالج لج4. Teach them to take from the treasures of

Allahهلالج لج and give to the rest of mankindTo do this through science, maths and language

Integrated TeachingWhy do we need it?

Page 5: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Please ask yourself1. What do you call someone who studied full

time for 15 years?2. What do you call your child when he/she

passes the 12th class exam?3. Which job calls for a school graduate?

What did you pay for?

Page 6: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Who is responsible?• If a child doesn’t study• If a child has no manners• If a child lacks in confidence• If a child doesn’t know who Allahهلالج لج is• If a child has no connection with Rasoolullahملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

Who should be punished? But who is punished?

Page 7: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Teaching is where

It is legal to punish someone else for

your crimes

Page 8: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Education today1. Random information crammed without

reason2. Tested on random recall3. No focus on showing relatedness of one to

another4. No focus on application in lifeAfter 15 years of learning students

completely unprepared to face the world

Page 9: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

What’s wrong today?1. Class organization according to age2. Teaching discrete subjects unrelated to

each other3. Ringing bells to announce periods4. Examining only random recall – not

understanding5. No child involvement in any decision

making6. No freedom to do what they want when

they wantThey usually call such places - prisons

Page 10: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

1. The way we look at children2. The way we treat children3. The way we evaluate teachers4. The way we support teaching

What must change?

Who is the school for?

Page 11: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

What to do?1. Accept them as equals2. Trust them with responsibility3. Pay based on customer

satisfaction4. Top pay, top quality, top facilities

Make the school aspirational for students and teachers

Qur’anic methodA’al Imraan 3:190. Verily! In the creation of the heavens and

the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for people of understanding.

191. Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, AND think deeply

about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): “Our Rabb! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as

partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.”

Allah used AND

Page 15: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Why this method?Islam recognizes that all knowledge is from Allah and that the purpose of knowledge

is to produce the awe and majesty of Allah (Khashyatullah) in the heart.

The natural result is to connect to Allah

Two Oceansذي مرج البحرين هذا عذب فRرات وهRو ال

Rجاج وجعل بينهRما برزخا وحجرا وهذا ملح أمحجRورا

Furqan 25: 53. And it is He Who has let free the two seas (kinds of water), one palatable and sweet, and the other salt and bitter, and He

has set a barrier and a complete partition between them.

How does this happen and where is this?

ألم نجعل األرض مهاداوالجبال أوتادا

Naba 78:6. Have We not made the earth as a bed, 7. And the mountains as pegs?

Sي نسفا Rونك عن الجبال فقRل ينسفRها رب ويسألTa-ha 20:105. And they ask you concerning the mountains, say; "My

Rabb will blast them and scatter them as particles of dust.

Sرت الجبالR فكانت سرابا ي RوسNaba 78:20. And the mountains shall be moved away from their

places and they will be as if they were a mirage

Page 21: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Did we ask1. ‘Why Pegs’?2. What if we had asked, discovered

and told the world about it – in the context of the Qur’an?

Who received this information first? But who confirmed it on their own?

Page 22: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Listen but make your own choices

Page 23: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Design decides product

Page 24: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Flight is a function of design

Page 25: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

This is the result of our design

Page 26: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

In the world of tomorrow

1.Courage2.Enterprise

3.Creativity 4.Confidence

Is our education building these?

Page 27: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig
Page 28: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

What must be done?1. Vocational training in every school and

madrassa2. Basic entrepreneurial skills education3. Part of the daily timetable4. Qualifying certificate at the end of the

courseEvery child must graduate with a marketable skill

Page 29: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Walk the TalkBecause people listen with their

eyes

Page 30: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Only words1.Commitment2.Honesty3.Accountability4.Respect

5.Courage6.Ethics7.Integrity8.Compassion

Until we begin to live by them

Page 31: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

They must be inculcated

Values can’t be legislated

Page 32: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Our greatest human challenge

1. To behave according to our beliefs

2. To do what is right3. To stand up for justice

To walk the talk

Page 33: CTS in teaching for tomorrow by Mirza Yawar Baig

Evaluate the one in the mirror

Because that is the only one in your control
