“To Do My Best” Opening

Everyone, please join me in saying the Cub Scout Promise.

[Make the Cub Scout Sign and then say the Cub Scout Promise with

the Cub Scouts.]

Part of what we promised is that we will do our best.

What does it mean to do our best? [Lots of great ideas will come

from the Cub Scouts.]

“Doing our best” means we need to try our hardest to do whatever it is that we are doing.

It doesn’t mean we have to be perfect, but we need to try our hardest and put forth the energy

to do the best that we possibly can.

So let’s do our best now as we repeat the Pledge of Allegiance and as we participate in our den

meeting today.

Feats of Skill Activities Tiger/Wolf Activity

Wolf Requirements 1c, 1d, 1e

Cub Scouts should be divided into small groups for this activity.

Set up the following three stations for this activity. Cub Scouts will do the activity at each station and

rotate when their group is finished.

Remind Cub Scouts (especially at Station 2) to do their best. Not everyone will be able to do all of these

activities, but they do need to try to do their best.

Station 1 – Do a front roll.

Station 2 – Do a back roll.

Station 3 – Do a falling forward roll.

Building Muscles

Before the Bears and Webelos Scouts visit the separate stations for this activity, while they are together

have them do at least three stretching activities (touching their toes, reaching up high, etc).

Bears and Webelos Scouts should be divided into small groups for this activity. Set up four stations for

this activity. Cub Scouts will do the activity at each station and rotate to the next station when their

group is finished.

Remind Cub Scouts to do their best.

Materials

Masking tape (for marking spots for the standing long jump)

Measuring tape (for measuring distance for the standing long jump)

Tennis balls (one or two – depending on how big the groups are)

Station 1 – Curl-ups

Have another person hold your feet down while you do as many curl-ups

as you can. This could be timed.

Station 2 – Push-ups

Do as many push-ups from the ground or floor as you can. This could be timed.

Station 3 – Standing Long Jump

(Use the masking tape to mark a starting line for them to put their feet. Using

the measuring tape to measure how far they jumped.)

Do a standing long jump as far as you can. Let each Cub Scout see if he can beat

the distance of his first jump.

Station 4 – Softball Throw (this station may need to be outside)

Throw a (tennis ball) as far as you can. Have Cub Scouts take turns (at

least twice) throwing the ball.

It’s in the Bag! Game

Materials:

6 paper bags for each team

1 rubber ball for each team

Pictures to cut out for each bag

Scissors

Glue

Masking tape (for marking starting line)

Instructions:

1. Divide Cub Scouts into teams of 8-10 Cub Scouts.

2. Give each team 6 paper bags, 1 rubber ball and a set of pictures that they will

need to cut out and glue to the bags.

3. Once the pictures are glued onto the bags, have the Cub Scouts line up the bags

about 5 feet from a starting line – with one the pictures on one side of the bag

facing the starting line.

4. The first player comes and stands behind the starting line. With the rubber ball,

the first player tries to bounce the ball into the bags. If he makes the ball into a

bag, he receives the number of points written on the bag.

5. This play continues through all of the players until the allotted time for the

game is up.

6. The team with the most points wins the game.

Hint: Bags with “Go foods” taped to them will give the Cub Scouts the most

points.

Variation: Instead of playing for the highest team score, the Cub Scouts could play

for the most points that they can make individually.

Healthy Choices Closing

Cubmaster:

Your body is a wonderful machine, but like any machine, it

requires care and attention. Cars need oil and gas to run.

Your body needs food for its energy. Just as an engine

needs routine maintenance, your body needs annual

check-ups. Healthy food, exercise and plenty of rest are the

basic ingredients for a healthy body. With proper care, a

car will last for many years, and with wise choices you body will last a long time too.

Have a great week, Cub Scouts and make some healthy choices!
