    While growing up on the Bad RiverReservation, Robin Dickersons moth-

    er taught her about their culture, shar-ing with Robin the art o beading andsewing in the tradition o her Ojibwaheritage. Robin has been practicing hercrat since she was 10 years old, and willbe demonstrating sewing and beading atthe Portage County Cultural Festival asone o more than 30 diferent demon-strations taking place in the Ethnic ArtsArea.

    In its 21st year, this estival celebratesthe diverse cultures o Portage Countyby sharing ood, music, ethnic arts andcultural traditions. More than 35 cul-tures are represented at the event beingheld May 11th rom 10am to 5pm atStevens Point Area Senior High, 1201N. Point Drive. Te goal o the event isto promote cultural understanding, whilehaving un, started in 1992 as an efortto build tolerance through understand-

    ing o the diverse ethnic backgrounds othe population o Portage County. Morethan 13,000 people attended the estivallast year.

    Te variety o activities and events is im-pressive, thanks to the dedicated volun-teers who work year round to plan theday. Te event is ree to the public, und-ed by the community and a long list osponsors.
