Cummins Filtration is moving fast on the success of its Keep It Moving! Campaign. Launched last year, this campaign highlighted the unique qualities and attributes that are associated with Fleetguard—performance, innovation and assurance.

Keep It Moving! campaign focuses on the real commitment of their product lines with the following :

• Assurance - Highlighted the award-winning filtration products of Fleetguard that is recognized by industry-renowned experts. The awards—which includes the StrataPore Media award, Advance Venturi Nozzle design on tube award and the Patented Constac Technology award—proved that Cummins continues to lead the industry based on customer partnership, technological innovation and the protection of engines, equipment, people and the environment.

• Performance - It showcased the latest in commercial testing equipment that offers real world testing and made sure that specifications of all major OEMs are met and surpassed with high standards.

• Innovation - Focused on the engineering expertise of Cummins Filtration that has been proven through the years. It simply shows that Fleetguard products never stops researching on innovative ideas and improvement that benefits both the engine and the environment.

In line with these elements, Cummins Filtration is now on a roll towards the future. To further progress and keep up with the real commitment of their product lines and services, Cummins Filtration is again proud to launch their new campaign for 2009—“Dependable”.

In line with the “Dependable” campaign, a new set of marketing tools (posters, banners, pull-up banners, wall stickers, floor stickers, flags, etc.) will highlight the dependability of their products and services. The visuals will show the full blast improvement of the new product lines and its technology advancements. The main focus of the campaign is to combine all three values mentioned in the previous campaign and make a strong stand that Cummins Filtration is still the most dependable filtration product in many ways.

Fuel Pro Launch in the Port Industry

Bangkok port and Laem Chabang port are two of the biggest international ports in Thailand and most of the terminal tractors in use, such as Ottawa, Kalmar, Sumittomo, Mitsui Paceco, Clark, Kramer, Belotti Ferrari etc, are powered by Cummins Engine. Cummins Diethelm Limited (CDL) took the opportunity to educate the authority to focus on improving the fuel system. The fuel system is the key of the factor to engine life where contaminated fuel will shorten life of the engine and increase higher operating cost.

A project was launched to protect the fuel system by installing Fuel Pro on the equipments. Khun Suriya, Technical Sales Representative of CDL who is cover Laem Chabang ports offered the units of Fuel Pro on trial to customer for demonstrating the performance. After the Fuel Pro was installed to the machine and put to work about a month, the contamination was drained out to show to the customer.

Customer was convinced of the outstanding performance of Fuel to protect his fuel system, when contaminants and water was drained out. Those would be most detrimental to engine should they be allowed to flow into the engine. The customer commented, “It not only protect my fuel pump and injectors but also save a lot of my operating cost!”.

The easy to use guide provided, made sure that champions of Fleetguard’s coolant product will surely come across as confident individuals with professional knowledge of the a proper cooling system practices.

South East Asia Newsletter - May 200

Counterfeit activities had been uncovered in various regions. Some of the latest trends we picked up recently are the look-alikes, where the design are similar to Fleetguard design except of their brand names and some claims were made to be in affiliation with Cummins Filtration China. These claims are illegitimate, planned to deceived customer, putting more harm than protection in your engines.

Beware! New Faces of Fake Filters

South East Asia Newsletter - June 200

Use of fake or look-alikes will compromise engine protection via following :

• Poor filtration micron rating, limited capacity, reliability & strength.

• Poor sealing; resulting in fluid leakage.

• Element burst; sending debris into engine systems.

• Starvation; causing lack of lubrication or loss of power.

• Rust formation; due to usage of low grade metal and poor process treatment.

Project Perisai - Indonesia

Project Perisai (Shield) was launched in Indonesia last 7 July 2008 and was conducted in Banjamasin. Its main objective is to educate the market about the extended functions of a coolant, specifically Fleetguard’s Fully Formulated Coolant which is recommended by Cummins (please refer to Cummins Service Bulletin - 3666132-04). More than just providing anti-freezing protection in the radiator - it also provides additional protection against corrosion, scaling and other major potential damages to the engine. Additionally, Fleetguard is easy to use with its hassle-free service maintenance procedures.

The seminar included events such as in-depth products training and an introduction to using the 6 Sigma methodology as a platform for improving the process for product promotion that will benefit end-customers. The key differences in engine cooling system protection between

heavy-duty and light-duty operation was included in the discussion as to prevent any future error of using light-duty maintenance regime on heavy-duty application. In PT Altrak, a total of 29 participants from various functions all over Indonesia (such as Training Development, Service, Parts Logistics, etc.) attended the Coolant Marketing Kit launch. This team was lead by Mr Djoenaidi Soesanto – the Manager of Parts Marketing. And the Coolant Champion for PT Altrak Mr. Sarbaini helped localize the products training to all the employees of PT Altrak. This is a tremendous feat considering that he has just undergone a half-day direct product training with the CF Singapore staff!

The week-long launch ended with an on-site visitation (photo on the left) to fully understand the actual requirements of the end customers which provided valuable advice for future improvements in our cooling system service maintenance program to the customers.

South East Asia Newsletter - July 200

“Project Perisai’s main objective is to educate the market about the extended

functions of a coolant...”

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEMINAR

• Identifying the common engine failure issues such as water pump impeller pitting, liner pitting, deposits & scaling, metal corrosion, cavitation corrosion and plugging.

• Discussing the benefits of Fleetguard with its easy 3-step maintenance system.

• Cummins recommendation on the use of Fully Formulated Coolants since it meets the ASTM D6210/The Maintenance Council RP 329 (ethylene glycol) and The Maintenance Council RP 330 (propylene glycol) specifications.

• An introduction to using the 6 Sigma methodology.

• Key differences in engine cooling system between heavy-duty and light-duty engines.

South East Asia Newsletter - August 200

Project Perisai - Thailand

Project Perisai (Shield) was launched in Thailand during Jul 28 - Aug 6, 2008 with Cummins Diethelm Limited (CDL). CDL’s Part Manager, Khun Surasak, was designated by Khun Udomsak (Executive Manager—After Market ) as the Coolant Project Champion due to his strong understanding of engines application. The main task was to deliver the benefits—protection and cost savings— of Fully Formulated Coolant to the market, especially to the end users. The project was supported by Cummins Filtration’s Thailand Business Manager, Khun Pipat, and S.E.A. Business Manager, Michael Tan.

Properties of Fully Formulated Coolant (Glycol + Additive + Water): Also commonly referred as Anti-freeze, most of the customers know that it is for use in cold countries. This is a misconception of the Anti-Freeze properties, as it provides Anti-Boil and corrosion protection too! It raises boil point over that of water; and lowers the freeze point. In the area of raising the boil point, it should be understood that once the coolant exceeds its boil point, coolant contact at the heat rejection surface is broken and heat rejection rate is reduced. The resulting hot spot can cause cracking of the head (particularly at the exhaust valve seat region) due to extreme temperature variations, associated expansion and contraction differences. Localized corrosion can easily elevate at the steam hot spot especially when considering all the factors for corrosion are in place like heat, water vapour and other corrosive agents.

“Most of the customers know that Anti-Freeze is for use in cold countries ...This is a misconception of the Anti-Freeze property as

it provides Anti-Boil and corrosion protection too!”

Benefits of Glycol is that it has less surface tension than plain water and when mixed with water at 50%, it basically makes water more wet.

In the engine cooling system this “wetting agent” effect provides much improved carry-over of the chemical additive (DCA4) to penetrate into the metal surface and carry out the transformation from a soft exposed surface to a hard and less penetrable surface. Glycols, while being slightly heavier than water, are completely soluble and mixes well. And since it is slightly heavier, it works a bit like a shock absorber fluid and sees to it that the coolant has a better dampening effect on the bubble imploding shockwaves caused by cavitations. Glycol is an important chemical to mix with the coolant at 40%-60%. For more information, refer to Cummins Service Bulletin 3666132-04.

Fleetguard Fully Formulated Coolant are such as:

1. ES Compleat EG — Ethylene Glycol based.

2. PG Plus — Propylene Glycol based, low toxicity protecting the environment.

Frank Sullivan Recognizes Cummins Filtration for Strong Contributions to Aerosol Filtration Technology

24 Jun 08 — Based on its recent analysis of the aerosol filtration market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Cummins Filtration with the 2008 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation of the Year for developing high performance air filtration and crankcase ventilation systems that protect engines and significantly reduce total engine emissions.

These systems provide superior protection in applications such as heavy duty trucks, agriculture, construction and mining equipment, and a variety of industrial products such as portable power generators, small engines and vehicle cabin filtration systems.

With over 50 years experience in air filtration technology, Cummins Filtration has the most extensive product coverage in the industry, including a variety of filtration systems, coolants, fuel additives and exhaust systems. Its Fleetguard® air filtration products are highly efficient (up to 99.7 percent) and help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) meet customer demands for engine performance.

Fleetguard products are recognized as robust and durable, allowing longer service life and providing greater uptime than competitive products in the market. Through both its products and services portfolio, Cummins Filtration provides a total value package to meet clients’ requirements for extended uptime, increased operator comfort, lower operating cost, and reduced environmental impact.

“Cummins Filtration has demonstrated excellence in product development and innovation, which is also reflected in terms of the range of its intellectual property portfolio – 525 global patents, of which nearly 80 percent relate to filters or filtration technology alone,” says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Krzysztof Grzybowski. “ This design expertise provides Cummins Filtration a solid foundation to embark upon its product development efforts.

One prominent innovation is the Fleetguard OptiAir™ filtration system, which is a complete line of seven air cleaner sizes, covering air flow requirements up to 1100 CFM. This modular system offers up to 50 percent greater particulate capacity in a rugged composite housing. Higher flow and lower restriction means that the filter can do the work of conventional filters in a smaller overall package size.

Fleetguard crankcase ventilation filtration systems offer diesel engine OEMs the ability to decrease the amount of emitted particles including oil droplets and aerosolized crankcase blow-by – a requirement necessitated by increasingly stringent regulations. The system offers two technologies – service free, life of the engine impactors, and highly efficient coalescers featuring multilayer media.

“Crankcase gases from heavy duty engines can contribute up to 120 percent of the total allowable particulate matter emissions, and the global trend over the last five years has been to completely eliminate oil drip with advanced open crankcase ventilation (OCV) breather solutions or in closed crankcase ventilation (CCV),” notes Grzybowski . “Cummins Filtration has applied the Impactor and Coalescer technologies to over 60 percent of the EPA 2007 engines produced.”

In summary, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Cummins Filtration’s significant contributions in aerosol filtration product development and innovation by bestowing upon it the prestigious Award for Product Innovation of the Year.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to the company that has carried out new research, which has resulted in innovation(s) that have or are expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. The Award recognizes the quality and depth of a company’s research and development program as well as the vision and risk-taking that enabled it to undertake such an endeavour.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.

Shipbuilders in Thailand - Protected by Fleetguard

A ship building and repairing company in Thailand embarked on a huge project that involved building more than 10 units of crew boats which operated in offshore oil rigs. Three units of Cummins KTA 50 and two units of KTA38 engine was used to power the generators of each vessel.

Mr. Khun Buncha, service manager of Cummins Diethelm Limited (CDL), is responsible for providing engineering expertise for the crew for both operational and maintenance requirement. In addition, the features and benefits of a Fully Formulated Coolant as warranted by Cummins, such as the ES Compleat, was introduced and discussed into detail in how it could prolong life of engine.

Included in the discussion were the benefits and serviceability of the ES Compleat Coolant. It is a Fully Formulated Coolant that provides superior engine protection, extends service interval and simplifies any maintenance program. It is compatible with gaskets, elastomers and other non-metallics in the engine. Not only does it optimize cooling system performance, it also provides antifreeze and antiboil protection.

Because of its remarkable performance and versatility, the ES Compleat received positive feedbacks from the maintenance engineers; as they mentioned that it is very convenient to use and there is no need to be concerned about coolant contamination.

Bus and Truck Exhibition 200 - Thailand

South East Asia Newsletter - November 200

Last 9 -11th October 2008, Cummins Diethelm Limited (CDL) participated in the Bus and Trucks Exhibition held in Thailand. Over 20,000 visitors attended in a span of 3 days—this is considered the largest and most successful exhibition to-date. Khun Pipat from Cummins Filtration Singapore (CFS) together with Khun Udomsak and Khun Surasak from Cummins Diethelm Limited (CDL) Thailand, exhibited the new technology of Fleetguard products with their corresponding staff.

The Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) uses the CNG technology and in turn delivers outstanding results in comparison with the competitor’s product. The combustion temperatures of the CNG are considerably higher than fuel and diesel and needs to be properly cooled down with the help of Fleetguard’s ES Compleat coolant. This is important especially on the exhaust valve and valve seat of the engine which are considered one of the main hotspot areas. Khun Udom, Cummins Diethelm Limited (CDL) General Manager, places a special focus on the needs of bus and truck engines which stresses on cost efficiency, while maintaining durability. The innovative technology of a Cummins NGV engine is more than able to provide these benefits to the customer.

Among the successful products featured at the Cummins Diethelm Limited (CDL) exhibition, the gas filter NG5900 captured the undivided attention of the participants. This unique filter helps contaminate the oil present during compression since it will cause a short lifespan on the gas nozzle if overlooked. Other products included in the exhibition were Fleetguard products specifically Opti Air, Enviro Guard, Lube filtration, and Fuel Pro.

“What we like from the Fleetguard design is the active indicator—as long it is properly installed—which is as per the suggestion of CJ Field

Technician. Ever since the change, our on-site mechanics has never been awaken from their sleep just to replace the fuel water separator filter.

They are happy with the filter SMART indicator system. All they need to do is to see the level of the fuel in relation to the cartridge body.”
