Investiture Ceremony

MC: Next on our programme is the investiture ceremony for the Cuon Scout

Group – Rover Scout Crew. After today, these newly invested Rover

Scouts will take on the responsibility of guiding and mentoring the

younger Scouts. Hence, may I invite GSL Mr Latiff to invest these squires

into the Knighthood of Rovering.

Fellow Rovers will come forward.

GSL: Have you come with a desire to become a Rover Scout in our worldwide

Brotherhood?

Squires: I have.

GSL: In spite of any difficulties you have had in the past, are you now

determined to do your best to be honorable, truthful, clean in what you

think, in what you say, in all that you do?

Squires: I am.

GSL: Do you understand that service means that at all times you will be good-

natured towards all other people and will do your best to help them, even

though it may not be convenient or pleasant or safe for you, and that you

will expect no reward for so doing?

Squires: I do.

MC: In ancient times, it was the custom of those about to become Knights to be

laid with water, in token of the washing away of past misdeeds and as a

sign that they were determined to commence afresh. Our Rovers will now

in your presence show their commitment the same way as the Knights.

[Rovers move forward to wash their hands]

[Flag bearers bring out flag]

GSL: Are you ready to re-new your Scout Promise? Bearing in mind that you

are expected to interpret it not from a boy’s point of view, but from that of

an adult.

[Recite promise, left hand on flag, Scout sign on the right hand]

MC: By virtue of the authority vested in Mr Latiff as the GSL, he shall now dub

[names], as Rover Scouts.

[GSL begins knighting after everyone kneels, rovers rise after GSL places back the

sword]

GSL: I trust you on you honor to keep you promise and give you the buffet

which the knights of old received to remind you, as it did them, that you

have one tender point, namely your Honor, nothing should be more

quickly left than an imputation against it. With the invited guests as our

witnesses, I welcome you into the Fellowship of the Open Air and Service.

[Rovers March Off]

[The candidate advances and at the same time two Rover Scouts step forward with

the Group Flag in their hands and lowers it between the Rover Leader and the

candidate, who takes hold of the flag with his left hand and makes the Scout sign

with his right]

Candidate: On my honor, I promise that I will do my best,

To do my duty to God, and the Republic of Singapore,

To help other people, and

To keep the Scout Law.

[The Rover Scout Leader then takes the new Rover Scout by the left hand and gives

him a buffet on the left shoulder with the right hand, saying:]

Leader: I trust you on your honor to keep your Promise and give you the buffet

which the knights of old received to remind you, as it did them, that you

have one tender point, namely your Honor; nothing should be more

quickly left than an imputation against it.

[After which, the Rover Scout Leader presents him with the Scout Badge. The unit

closes in round the new Rover Scout, shaking him by the hand and giving him a

welcome]
