“we can't just tell the good stories, they have the power to change, we need the champions of change, but we lose the opportunity to be able to say the Emperor has no clothes sometimes.

how do we privilege assessment? Why do we do eportfolios? Eportfolios are about students learning. They are assessment as learning”.

begun to think that very few things indeed were

really impossible.

You can't write the wrong thing in reflective writing. You are the authority of your own Experience.

Reflective writing in medicine, story or narrative writing.

Write a story of Experience. Through this you find out what you know and remember. Max van maven, "stories are a form of everyday theorizing "

Through reflection we bring our espoused values into practice. We can only reflect effectively if we are trying to get out of our own little bubble.

Why fiction? It's under the mask of fiction that you can tell the truth What we write today is open to change, stories and narrative are fluid.

Reflective writing technique-free writing- write anything that comes head into your head for 6 minutes (Coleridge) it enables us to suspend our disbelief. You may write a list, you may not think about it. It's private.

Use metaphor, If you were weather, what weather would you be now?

Reflective writing can very - Therapeutic, but we don't need to share it all the time. Writing is different form telling and talking; writing is different because you communicate with

that.

3 stages, Using the voice is private, reading it back, reading it aloud to others, you give it voice.

Use of words is vital. For assessment, it's good to follow this process then select from it for the assessment.

'Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from

here?'

'I don't much care where —' said Alice.

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice

'T

That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said

the Cat.

'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat

'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'we're all mad here. I'm

mad. You're mad.’

'You must be,' said the Cat, 'or you wouldn't have come here.'

"Overcoming Apathy" & "How Students Learn"

no such thing no such thing as learning as learning styles - they styles - they

have learning have learning preferencespreferences

“If there is no cognition there is no learning”attention in the process - no hook, then you don't have them!cognitive neurosciences, the way the brain grows and develops. As we do stuff we get better and better at it. social neuroscience, interactions change us physically.humans have connections, we work with one another and develop the contagion.we influence each others levels.

I have enough information then I get brain overload. When marking, when do we really stop reading? How do we move from novice to expert? how do the details actually bring the beauty to the topic?we need to find the details, what's the key component that makes it interesting? we need to teach our students how to learn - they don't know how to learn in our discipline. Teachers teach by thinking, we don't teach that. nobody teaches us how. the pedagogical stuff is its own thing- the theory has been investigated, all learning needs to be investigated. Dr. Todd Zakrajsek
