SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Term 3 Week 1 19th July, 2011
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school for Term 3. We hope that the students and your families had a relaxing break, did heaps of great things and spent lots of time together.
We have come back from our School Development Days with extra enthusiasm and with some more ideas to help students learn.
One of the speakers, John Joseph a world renowned brain expert, gave many ideas to reach potential. Two of his hints was to make sure kids do not play electronic games for three hours before going to bed and to make sure the kids sleep for between 10 – 8 hours. He gave us a lot of great information about how to make the brain work better.
Early this term we will be spending a lot of time planning for our Positive Behaviour for Learning and National Partnerships. There will be a lot of community input for these initiatives so we will need to organize a lot of meetings for everyone to attend.

Crunch & Sip
Healthy after school fruit and vegetable snack ideas
Nourish kids with healthy snacks that include fresh fruits and vegetables. With a little planning, you can provide nutritious snacks to kids with ease. Simply take some fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables and a few other ingredients and you can whip up a healthy snack in no time at all. In addition, you can avoid the trap of unhealthy fatty and/or sugary snacks like crisps, biscuits and bars.
If you’re out and about, for example at after school sport or activities, pop a piece of fruit or pack a healthy snack in a bag so it can be eaten on the run. Fresh fruit is one of the most ultra-convenient and healthy snacks for kids!
Help kids enjoy a healthy lifestyle with these quick and easy fruity or vegetable-based nourishing snacks, they’re sure to be favourites!
Toast and muffin toppers
Top split toasted English-style muffins, wholemeal toast or crumpets with ricotta, sliced banana and scatter with a few fresh blueberries. Drizzle with a little honey if desired.
Alternatively, to make a melt, top the muffin, toast or crumpet with sliced tomato (or halved cherry tomatoes) and reduced fat grated cheese and melt the cheese under a hot grill.
BRAIN BUSTER
Encourage students to eat brain food: protein and fruit in the morning, carbohydrates after school. The energy requirement of the brain dominates over all other organs (Read Carper, Your Miracle Brain for the research behind these ideas)

BECTIVE SMALL SCHOOLS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The Bective Small Schools Athletics Carnival will be held at the TREC sporting fields on Monday 1st August. The school bus will not be running on this day as student transport is arranged by each individual family.
At the P & C Meeting this afternoon, discussion will held regarding catering on the day. Helpers to assist on the day and donations of cakes and slices will be needed as well.
A note with further information and lunch orders will be sent out later this week.
SENIOR ROOM TECHNOLOGY DAY
On Monday 25th July, the Senior Room students will be attending a Technology day at the Currabubula Hall from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. We have invited a few other schools to learn more about different ways to present work on the internet such as Animoto.
A permission note is not needed as this will be covered by the general local area note signed by all families at the beginning of the year.
P & C MEETING
The next P & C Meeting will be held this afternoon 19th July at 5:20 pm. Everyone is welcome.
