Indian scientist Rasik Ravindra was elected as a member of the UN Commission on the Limits of Continental Shelf (UNCLCS). National – Tamil Nadu Governor K. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha launched Amma Pharmacy (Amma Marundhagam) to sell quality medicines at lower prices. The Maharashtra government approved a proposal to reserve 16% of government jobs and seats in educational institutions for Marathas and 5% for Muslims. The Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel announced 33 percent reservation for women in the police force. Mr. Aziz Qureshi who is Governor of Uttrakhand, took oath as Uttar Pradesh Governor. Veteran Tamil film director and producer Ramanarayanan passed away at the age of 65 in Singapore. He has directed 125 films and holds the world record of directing the maximum number of movies by a director. Hindi poet Shri Kedarnath Singh wins prestigious Jnanpith Award 2013. Odisha sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has won a prize at the sand sculpting World Cup in the US. He

won the People's Choice prize at the World Cup of Sand Sculpting - 2014 held in the Atlantic City of

the US.

France announced to honour Shahrukh Khan with the "Legion of France", one of its highest civilian

awards. It will be awarded to Shahrukh for his contribution to Cinema.

Indian-born Booker Prize winning author Salman Rushdie was named the winner of this year's

prestigious Pen Pinter prize for his outstanding literary output and support for freedom of expression.

India-born Pratishtha Khanna was honoured with Champions of Change by the White House.

India-born Mexican plant scientist, Dr. Sanjaya Rajaram, has been named winner of the 2014 World

Food Prize in recognition of his outstanding work in the improvement of wheat crop.

Indian-origin physicist, Professor Tejinder Virdee, best known for his work on the Large Hadron
