Dear Members of the Select Board: We, the undersigned Driscoll school parents, Town Meeting Members, and Brookline voters, wish to express our support for the 4-section Driscoll school project, and urge the Select Board to take steps to ensure the project is continued and that its Fall 2022 opening not be delayed. Although question 1 was rejected in the vote on May 7, 2019, it was a “bundled” vote, limiting voters to saying “Yes” to both Driscoll and Baldwin or “No” to both Driscoll and Baldwin. Debate on the question was focused on the flaws of the Baldwin project and the costs of the combined projects. Question 1 was rejected by voters who had no option to approve the Driscoll plan apart from approval of the Baldwin plan. The expansion of the Driscoll School from 3 sections to 4 will add 185 student seats by Fall 2022, and the renovation of the physical plant of Driscoll is badly needed. This is an important first step toward addressing enrollment needs in our town, along with the continuation of the MSBA process to add seats as part of the Pierce School renovation. We urge the following steps be taken: 1. A new override election be scheduled before Sept 15, 2019 with an unbundled debt exclusion question for the 4-section Driscoll school, 2. Unspent funds designated for schematic design at Driscoll be immediately released so that the Fall 2022 opening of the 4-section Driscoll school is not jeopardized, with additional transfers from the reserve fund or elsewhere as needed, and 3. The Select Board recommend favorable action on the Driscoll budget motion at the May 21, 2019 Town Meeting. Respectfully, C. Scott Ananian, Brookline Town Meeting Member Precinct 10 and Driscoll KS dad and the undersigned: Current Driscoll Parents 1. Stephanie Africk , 119 Westbourne terrace unit 2. 2. We urge the following steps be taken:

1. A new override election be scheduled before Sept 15, 2019 with an unbundled debt exclusion question for the 4-section Driscoll school,

2. Unspent funds designated for schematic design at Driscoll be immediately released so that the Fall 2022 opening of the 4-section Driscoll school is not jeopardized, with additional transfers from the reserve fund or elsewhere as needed, and

3. The Select Board recommend favorable action on the Driscoll budget motion at the May 21, 2019 Town Meeting.

While I understand that Driscoll does not on its own solve the townwide overcrowding issue, it is very much a step in the right direction [185 students is not nothing] and we are still on track to have it open on time. We've already spent more than $1M on schematic design so it seems a

shame to throw it all by the wayside. I totally supported the YES campaign and the reasoning behind it (e.g. this is a three-part solution) and tried to do my part to get it to pass (writing postcards, knocking on doors, sending e-mails to my fellow Driscoll parents, standing at the polls), but I definitely encountered a lot of hesitation and/or ambivalence on the part of the voters I spoke with (even Driscoll parents), and a lot of it had to do with people not being fond of the bundle and being highly skeptical of Baldwin. I am confident that a stand-alone override focused on Driscoll would garner tremendous support from not only the Driscoll community, but the Town as a whole. While I am disappointed by the result of Tuesday's election, I feel strongly that we need to unite and move forward with this solution, which puts our children first. Thank you, Beth

97. Sofya Raskhodnikova, 169 Mason Ter, Brookline. Driscoll needs to be renovated one way or the other. When my kids started at Driscoll, one of the first communications from the school we received was a plea from my daughter's teacher to bring in fans -- it was too hot in the classroom. It is simply shameful that a building of a public school in such an affluent school district is in such disrepair (with paint flaking off the walls), and the kids are being crowded in small spaces. Following the new building plan would be the best in the long run, but, even if the town decides not to follow it, something needs to be done.

109. Danielle Slevens, 1600 Beacon St. #1103 Brookline, MA 02446. Please consider this proposal very seriously. Our children's school is overcrowded and falling apart. This is fair neither to them nor to the many hardworking teachers who are currently making do under these conditions. We need your help to help them.

110. Lesley Solomon, 80 Summit Ave.

111. David Souza, 24 Jordan Road Brookline MA . The current Driscoll School situation is sad. The kids deserve more and the school renovation should not be postponed any further.

112. TATYANA SOUZA, 24 JORDAN ROAD. It is really imperative for Brookline to have excellent schools that are not overcrowded. Our citizens value education, and I am afraid if we let the schools overage and overcrowd like they are now, overtime Brookline will not be the place to live for excellent schools and proximity to Boston. As a homeowner, local business owner, and mom of two kids - I chose this town for those reasons and do not want to see it start to decline.

120. Ann Thanawastien, 1530 Beacon St. Driscoll has long been in need of a renovation. Every building has a life span and Driscoll has reached its usefulness for the modern age. The HVAC system barely works, classrooms are overcrowded, there is a nurse's bed in the hallway, and our kindergartners are eating lunch at 10:30am. This renovation is long overdue.

148. John Doggett, 8 Penniman Rd Brookline MA 02445. This is the fastest way at the moment to provide almost 200 student seats and the much needed renovation of Driscoll while we are investigating the way forward with or without Newbury/Maimonides. According to the School Department's enrollment projections, this and a Pierce expansion would provide all the right-sized capacity that is needed.to satisfy future enrollment needs as well as existing capacity problems. Please support a contingent appropriation of $108.8m that would give the Board authority to hold a Driscoll debt exclusion town vote without the need for a further Town Meeting. This option would give the Board until September 15 th to this vote. I would vote Yes on such a Driscoll ballot question.

149. Andrew Fischer, 21 Bartlett Crescent, Brookline. It is clear to all that the NO vote on Q1 was not a vote on Driscoll. It was a rejection of Baldwin, and of related failure to provide all information and other communication failures of the School Committee. Driscoll students, parents and the Driscoll community should not be punished for this vote rejecting the mistakes of the School Committee.

169. Robert Lepson, 36 Thorndike St.

170. Mark Levy, 61 Park St Brookline MA. Normally I might urge the Select Board to proceed with caution and look at how to get to a real resolution of the townwide school overcrowding crisis before advancing Driscoll. But the post-Question 1 situation is not normal. It would be unfair to Driscoll students, parents, teachers and staff to add further delay to getting the urgently needed new Driscoll built and ready for students. Moving the $108.8 million special appropriation at this year's annual town meeting (conditional on a successful debt exclusion vote) and scheduling the vote as soon as possible will not only keep up the momentum toward resolving overcrowding townwide, but also keep faith with the Driscoll community who supported Question 1, Including a four section Driscoll School. While we wait to see when and if Pierce receives a green light on MSBA funding, we can take the time to do serious, strategic planning on what we need to do going forward. But delaying the Driscoll project for an unspecified period of time leaves the Driscoll community in limbo. That is neither fair, good policy nor strategically wise. We must restore public confidence in town government if we expect to rebuild broad community support for future big ticket school building projects. Thank you.

183. Harriet Rosenstein, 53 Centre Street. Driscoll needs what it's asking for. I wholly endorse this document.

184. Daniel Saltzman, 62 White Place. The Driscoll project, as previously planned, adds capacity, and 100% solves the inexcusable issue of poor conditions there. We need to build the 4-section Driscoll now. Let the voters weigh in on this as soon as possible, and let's get it done.

188. LEE L SELWYN, 285 RESERVOIR ROAD. The Select Board's decision to hold the long-needed Driscoll project hostage to the flawed and contentious Baldwin adventure was a grievous error that must be corrected expeditiously as the signatories to this letter demand. At the same time, it is also essential that the Baldwin project be abandoned in its entirety. Any suggestion by the SB or SC that Baldwin is stlil somehow "on the table" and subject to resurrection in the future will put public support for Driscoll at extreme risk. The Board should accept this reality and move on. Lee L. Selwyn / TMM Pct 13; Member, Advisory Committee

190. Frances Shedd-Fisher, 149 Walnut Street. I truly believe it would be a dereliction of duty for the SB to ignore the will of the voters of Brookline, and I along with many others believe there is consensus on Driscoll and Pierce, but not

on Baldwin for many good reasons. Current projections show we MAY not need more than these two projects so the better part of wisdom and responsible leadership would be to stage the projects so we don't burden students and parents with excess redistricting and taxpayers with unnecessary expenditures. It is illogical to delay moving forward on a project that is broadly supported and that will clearly move us as a community in the right direction on addressing crowding. Further, Driscoll is badly in need of updating. Then, Pierce should be next, no matter what the state says about helping with funding.

202. Bob Weintraub, 112 Columbia Street #2. I strongly support placing a debt exclusion on the ballot for a new four-section Driscoll School as soon as legally possible. Also, if the Town can purchase Newbury College, I support considering Newbury for an all-Town BEEP plus Kindergarten campus. That should alleviate all grade 1-8 school crowding while not changing the "culture" of parents transporting their youngest children to school.

203. Cornelia van der Ziel, 100 Wolcott Rd. Although I support this letter, I wonder if planning for a larger school at Driscoll would not be better. I know that many are opposed to large schools. Just a question. I do not have the answer. I wonder how things are going at the 5 section CC School. Is that too large?

204. Pamela, 12O Seaver Street Unit C202. I actively urged almost 200 registered voters to vote NO on Question One. Although some of these people voted NO because of the fear of increased property taxes, I believe that two main reasons they voted NO were because BALDWIN was an extremely flawed project and bundling was extremely offensive. Please bring Driscoll back. A 4 section at Driscoll is a very reasonable

plan, considering how much it would cost to bring a 3 section school up to Brookline standards. It will be more economical to build a brand new 4 section school at Driscoll and I will urge everyone to support an override for a 4 section Driscoll.

262. Janet Gelbart, 216 Saint Paul Street, Unit 601. It makes no sense to me to do nothing just because we can't do everything. Over the past year, I have heard broad support for Driscoll and many questions about Baldwin. Putting Driscoll back on the ballot will test whether voters are suffering override fatigue or were just uncomfortable with the choice they were given.

Driscoll won't solve the enrollment problems, but it gets us closer, and incremental seems to be all we can manage... I do believe it will be supported. that renovation IS supported by the town, as they consider Pierce. I know it sucks, but please do do an unbundled revote.

It is time for the Select Board to act responsibly and not out of the political considerations that surrounded Question No. 1 in the recent election. We have enough irresponsible political decision making on the national level and want Brookline to exhibit good governance.

The town voted down the combined proposal because of lack of support for the Baldwin project, not for Driscoll. Investing in the education of our children is one of the most important things that we can do as responsible citizens of Brookline.

346. Sarah Pangburn, 3 Craftsland Road, Brookline, MA 02467. After speaking with several Heath parents and residents in my neighborhood, I have not heard a single person object to the Driscoll expansion/ renovation. However, I've heard many people express vehement opposition to building a new school at Baldwin. Let's do what we can now to help ease overcrowding in the schools. It's not a complete answer, but it will help. Please bring Driscoll back to the ballot as a single question.

388. Martin Solomon, 1160 Beacon St. When I visit the school I'm appalled to see many of the classrooms and facilities are just the way they were when I was a student there starting 65 years ago. It is shameful that the floors give way when walking, the nursing facilities are inadequate, the classrooms are overcrowded to nearly twice the census when I was a student and the ability of the faculty to teach is subject to so much stress. I would gladly pay more taxes to see the school brought into the 21st century.

392. Lonna Steinberg, 137 Clinton Road. The Select Board should take full responsibility for the "No" vote - had the vote not been bundled, it's abundantly clear that Driscoll would have passed. We are only in this position because the Select Board chose to bundle in order to get Baldwin passed. This tactic failed, and now the Select Board must take responsibility and make this right. Driscoll is in desperate need of renovation, and adding a section worth of students would be a huge help. All of the voters who voted "Yes" to get more capacity should still want more capacity. The Select Board, and a select number of "Yes" voters, need to stop digging their heels in and support the Driscoll renovation and expansion. This is classic "cutting off your nose to spite your face" and it's not right. The children of this town shouldn't be punished because the Select Board tried to pull a fast one and failed. This is the fault of the Select Board and the Select Board only and needs to be fixed immediately.
