PRIDE. GREED. GLUTTONY. ANGER. LUST. SLOTH. ENVY. These are the “Seven Deadly Sins” made popular by ancient theologians and contemporary movies. And while we may desire to flee from these deadly traits, our American culture seems to embrace these “idols” as a normal part of life. So, what do we do? The bad news is that willpower won’t solve the problem, neither will behavior modification. No. Only the power of Christ’s perfect obedience, sinless sacrifice, and glorified resurrection gives us the freedom to confidently diagnose the root of our sins, boldly kill them through Gospel-fueled repentance, and joyfully walk in newness of life.

“ENVY” – Today, we recognize the danger in having a consuming desire for someone else’s traits, status, abilities or situation and the value of replacing it with the God-honoring virtue of kindness.
