CURRICULUM VITAE 1. PERSONAL PARTICULARS Surname: Moleleki Other names: Mohlomi Albert 2. EXPERIENCE 1972–1974: Junior Lecturer in the Department of Sesotho Languages, University of the

North. Joined the Sub-Department of Sesotho on 1st March 1972 after the Department had been without a lecturer for more than a year.

Responsibilities

Single-handedly revived the Sub-Department, starting with Courses I and II in 1972, and introducing Course III in 1973. Offered both language and literature at all levels. Was joined by another staff member only at the beginning of the 1974 academic year.

1975: Promoted to Lecturer in the same Sub-Department.

Responsibilities Offered Literature from Course I up to Honours level.

1976: Appointed Acting Head of the newly-established Department of Sesotho. 1987– 1988 March: Temporary Lecturer in the Department of African Languages and Literatures,

UCT, whilst registered for MA in the same Department.

Responsibilities Taught Sesotho Intensive Course, a programme aimed at introducing non-speakers of Sesotho to Sesotho language usage (with emphasis on communication); offered all literary genres to Sesotho students from Courses I up to III. Taught Southern African Vernacular Literature to Course III isiXhosa students. Offered a paper on poetry to isiXhosa Honours students.

1988 June– 1995 December:

Rejoined the Department of Sesotho, University of the North. Promoted to Senior Lecturer and Head of Department.

Responsibilities Taught all literary genres from Courses I up to III. Offered the following papers at Honours level: Literary Theory (in which I applied at least four literary theories to at least five African literary texts of the English expression); Sesotho Prose and Sesotho Poetry. Northern Sotho Prose through the inter-departmental co-operation we had established with the Department of Northern Sotho. Furthermore, fulfilled the day-to-day administrative duties of the Department, and served as Departmental representative on Senate.

1996 + : Appointed Associate Professor, and Head of Department in the Department

of African Languages, University of the Free State.

Responsibilities: Teach literature from Courses I up to Honours level. Supervise Master’s candidates. Serving as co-promoter for doctoral candidates whose theses are interdisciplinary. Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Department.

Handle translation and interpreting programmes for students registered for a

Higher Diploma and the Master’s Programmes at the Unit for Language Facilitation and Empowerment.

5. NUMBER OF MASTER’S AND DOCTORAL STUDENTS RESPONSIBLE FOR AS WELL AS RESEARCH PROJECTS AND RESEARCH REPORTS

- 1996 Research projects in partnership with overseas universities:

* The effectiveness of mother tongue (i.e. Sesotho) as medium of instruction in teaching the subject History to Grade 4 learners. The project was undertaken by a team of researchers from UFS and collaborators from the Catholic University of Leuven.

* Empirical Research of The effects of Learning-centred vs.

Content Based Modes of Learning from Instruction on the Learning Results of Black Primary School Children within the Domain of Human and Social Sciences. The project is a collaborative effort between UFS, VISTA – Bloemfontein on the one hand and the Catholic University of Leuven and the University of Antwerp (Belgium) on the other.

- 1997 Completed a research report on Attitudes towards the use of some

indigenous Southern African mother tongues (L1s) as media of instruction in formal education in Lesotho and the Free State (R.S.A.). Co-researchers: Profs ZA Matsela, GS Niemann, and NC de Wet.

- 1998/2000 Chairperson of the Free State Provincial Task Team on traditional leadership

issues in the Free State. The report was submitted in April 1999. (N.B.) - 2006 Two students are currently registered for Master’s Degrees. One student is registered for a Doctoral Degree. 6. RELEVANT TEACHING EXPERIENCE 1972–1974: Junior Lecturer at the Department of Sesotho Languages, University of the

merietebeurs aangebied om te studeer vir ʼn BA-graad aan die Universiteit van die Noorde. Behaal ʼn tiende plek in die orde van meriete uit alle swart studente wat in 1968 die St. 10 eksamen geskryf het.

1993 : Behaal ʼn eerste plek in die literêre studie-afdeling van die Thomas

Mofolo Literêre Toekenningskompetisie getiteld Makokonana a neanotaba le dingolwa tsa Sesotho.

: Die titel hierbo is ook aangewys as die algehele wenner van die

kompetisie en het ʼn wisseltrofee ontvang. 17. St. 10-vlak. Besoek in 1995 Welkom, Ladybrand, Bloemfontein, Vereeniging, Soweto en Springs. Die werkswinkels is georganiseer deur die Sotho Vakadviseurs onder die beskerming van die Departement van Onderwys.

1998 + : Hou gereeld werkswinkels oor kreatiewe skryfwerk aan

belangstellende groepe in Mangaung. 2000 + : Hou gereeld werkswinkels oor Sotho-onderrig by vrywillige skole in
