renovation of an old wooden house. ProfessorBengt Lundsten suggested that I should examinethe condition of the building before starting thedesign process.As I burrowed through the floorboards using acrowbar and a knife, I started to fall in love withthe finest of all building materials: wood.In the beginning of the nineties, I made it my goalto become the leading Finnish authority on woodwithin ten years. I quickly realized that this wasan impossible goal to achieve; for all myfoolishness, however, I still had the good sensenot to tell anyone about it.Wood turned out to be a more complex buildingmaterial than I had imagined, making it all themore interesting.”
