• Matheson tri-gas Corea del Sur - GAS Automatingprocesses for the semiconductor industry and frabricación of LCDs. Weperformed the design, manufacture, installation and programming (complete Engineering) of the control systems of the some processes of manufacture ofgas, this project lasted 2 years. General Background





• Gigante Verde (General Mills) – Irapuato. Complete electrical and automation Project for their new production facility. Lighting, electrical services, power, and automation, down to design level. The customer provided rough specifications based on a general layout and machinery-process design. The project includes the addition of 2 refrigeration compressors and one condenser to the system previously installed.

• Thermal Ceramics – Augusta, GA. Controller for Fiber Lines 1 & 2. This spun fiber facility has had serious problems with its old ABB DCS system. This project consists in the replacement of this old controller for e newer Allen Bradley ControlLogix system, with ControlNet and Ethernet communications. The controller will mainly be in charge of the water cooling system, spinners operations and collection chamber.

• Gigante Verde – Irapuato. Refrigeration Centralized System. We installed local PLC based controllers for 10 ammonia compressors. These were linked via Ethernet to a central controller for automatic start/stop and capacity control. The central controller is also directly in charge of the operation of other equipments, such as condensers and liquid ammonia pumps. The system is built around the AB Logix family of PLC’s, and the HMI application was developed with InTouch, by Wonderware.

• CO2 Liquid – Cosoleacaque, Ver. Complete automation and electric project for the first CO2 facility of this company. The plant is operated by the main controller, based con the AB SLC 500 family. The plant was totally reconstructed, since it was bought second-hand. All the instrumentation was checked and/or replaced, as needed. All motor starters were serviced. Cima also supplied MCCs for the new complementary equipment. The HMI application was developed with InTouch.

• Akzo Nobel – Los Reyes La Paz, Mex. Complete mechanical and electrical reassembly of metachlorperbenzoic acid for this chemical company. The plant, originally operating in England, was disassembled locally and shipped to Mexico. CIMA Ingenieros assembled a team of about 35 workers and technicians, and, based on diagrams and original information, direction provided by Akzo Nobel’s project department, and our own experience, reassembled the plant. Some new equipment was added, and changes to the layout were in effect. The plant was delivered ready to produce.


General Background





• Alfa Laval - Tlalnepantla, Mex. One of Alfa Laval’s many products is a degasifier for the petrochemical industry. Alfa Laval’s customers regularly require complete refurbishing of these units. CIMA Ingenieros has been contracted to perform the complete electrical renovation of these machines. The job includes supply of electrical components, mounting and rewiring of the whole unit, observing strict petrochemical industry standards. The units are delivered fully tested.

• Embotelladora de Toluca / Brisa - Toluca, Mex. Refrigeration Centralized System. The plant operates based on 6 reciprocating compressors, 1 screw compressor, 3 evaporative condensers, 1 ammonia suction trap, and other complementary equipments. This project included all the electrical installation (power, control and communications), electrical enclosures, and PLC/HMI programming. The main PLC is a Siemens S7-315, and the operator interface is a TP37, additional to the computer running Wonderware’s InTouch. The communications network is Siemens’ MPI. The condensers’ fans are operated with Danfoss VFDs, making the control of discharge pressure very stable.

• VitroFibras – México. Electrical Installation. VitroFibras recently expanded its fiberglass facility, installing a new furnace, and adding a second line, to more than double its capacity. In the first phase of the project CIMA Ingenieros relocated the main control room without stopping the furnace, which was quite a feat by itself. The space left by the previous control room was required for the new furnace and additional line. In the second phase we practically took charge of the mounting and interconnecting of all electrical enclosures in the new control room. During this project we had major interactions with English, Italian and German technicians, as we were in charge of the installation of their enclosures. We also refurbished all the older controllers that were to be reinstalled in the control room.

• Cervecería Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma – Monterrey, N.L. Refrigeration Centralized System. The refrigeration system at this plant is very large, using 12 1000HP screw compressors. All compressors were retrofit with the latest version of their own brand controller. The plant has a mixture of 6 Frick and 6 Mycom compressors. These controllers were linked via communications to a central SLC 5/05 PLC. Other equipments connected are 12 condensers, 4 liquid traps and a cooling tower. The condensers, being located far away, are controlled remotely via a FlexIOunit. The PLC is in charge of the automatic start/stop and capacity control algorithms for all compressors and condensers. Another PLC was installed in another location within the same plant to control 3 smaller compressors in charge of the CO2 operation required by the brewery. The complete system is visualized and operated from a PC computer running a Wonderware InTouch application in the control room.


General Background





• Thermal Ceramics de México plantaPachuca – High Temperature Brick Plant. Thermal Ceramics bought an old, abandoned facility and refurbished it completely. The first project developed within the plant was to import and reinstall all the machinery required to manufacture this kind of bricks using Italian technology. However, the plantto be installed was bought from a competitor, was not in working conditions, and most of the accompanying documentation was lost or outdated. Our work in this project comprised a great number of activities.

• Frigoríficos Especializados de Tuxpan – Tuxpan, Ver. MCC, Lighting and Plant Controller. This company constructed a refrigerated warehouse. Cima designed and built an MCC for all the motors: 3 compressors, 1 condenser, and about 8 heat exchangers. We also took control of automatic lighting inside the cold rooms. All the equipment is controlled by a SLC 5/04 PLC, a PanelView 600 Operator Terminal, and a PC running RSView 32 and a HMI application.

• Machinery Refurbishing. All kinds of mechanisms had to be repaired. Some had to be discarded, and a replacement part was designed and built, or purchased.

• Machinery Assembly. The production lines for Forming, Drying and Finishing were assembled. The plant layout changed substantially, so line modifications were required. Complete sections were rebuilt, as was required. All the sections were aligned and fixed, then tested mechanically.

• Motor Control Center. Several MCCs were designed and built. A large number of VFDssubstituted plain motor starters to improve line performance.

• PLC Controllers. The plant operated based on a network of PLCs, one for each line. These PLCsall kinds of information via sensors and operator commands, and operate the plant entirely. PanelView Operator Terminals are provided to help the operator view and/or adjust parameters.

• Electrical Installation: Power, Control, Services and Lighting. CIMA Ingenieros performed the design and execution of all the electrical installation for this project.

• Raw Materials. This system was provided by Noltec, an American vendor for materials handling equipment. Noltec personnel was in charge of the commissioning and startup of this section.

• Coca Cola Bottling Plants. Centralized Refrigeration Systems. A large number of Coca Cola Bottling Plants from different bottling groups have performed different projects to centralize the control of their Refrigerations Systems. Most of these projects have been subcontracted by Brisa (refrigeration integrator) and/or Mycom (refrigeration manufacturer). The projects involve the use of PLCs, programming of HMIs, require electrical installations, MCCs, etc. Some of the plants where we have worked are:

• Panamco: plants in Apatzingán, Morelia, Zamora, Irapuato, León, Apizaco, Puebla, Coatepec, Veracruz.

• FEMSA: plants in Tlalnepantla, Toluca, Los Reyes, Cuautitlán, Sabino, Cedro.• Procor: plants in Insurgentes, Guadalupe, Topochico, Universidad, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa,

Matamoros.• CIMSA: plants in Toluca and Cuernavaca.• Grupo Tampico: plants in Poza Rica, Tampico and Cd. Victoria.• Grupo El Carmen: plant in Saltillo.• Grupo Continental: plant in Zapopan.

• Thermal Ceramics de México planta Pachuca – Ceramic Fibers Plant. The Pachuca Thermal Ceramics plant held a new project: this was a completely new development. In this project we were completely responsible for the Electrical and Electronic areas. We were also in charge of the blowing room/spinners mechanical installation. We supplied the main power transformer, MCCs, including VFDs, for all applications, lighting, control sensors and wiring, the PLC with 3 PanelView operator terminals and 2 computers running RSView 32 as HMI. Considering this project together with the Brick plant at the same location, this is the largest project we have tackled.
