In the Hufford Lab: My research is focused on understanding the genetic mechanisms of adaptation to environmental stress across the natural landscape. The primary goal of her research is to identify the genomic regions, which show signatures of adaptation to highland environments consistently in different maize landraces. In the Olson Lab: My research in the postdoctor period centered in two aspects: differential expression and population genomics. The NGS technology RNAseq was applied in my research to estimate the differential expression of balsam poplar populations across a large latitude cline. The expression phenotype of these trees was also used for the gene co-expression network analysis to evaluate the evolution of co-expression network across latitudinal gradients. SNPs were called and used for downstream population genomic analysis. Outlier loci showing elevated population divergence across latitude were identified as targets of adaptive selection. Genomic landscape of population genetic indexes (π, θ, r2

(LD), Fst and Fct) was plotted to visualize how selection happened across the genome. During PhD training: 1. Phylogeny

I applied the molecular phylogenetic methods to reconstruct the phylogeny of a fern genus Lepisorus and its affine genera based on four chloroplast regions. 2. Biogeography

The biogeographical study of the genus was deeply preceded to investigate the correlation between the diversification of the fern group and climatic fluctuations, especially in the context of Asian monsoon regimes. 3. Phylogeography

The phylogeographical pattern of a species in Lepisorus was investigated. And we found that population genetics of the complex bear some imprint of the climatic change in Quaternary. 4. Speciation

I utilize two additional nuclear markers, plus the ploidy level estimation to unveil the complicated network of species relationships. Polyploidization has probably occurred in these ferns repeatedly through the entire Quaternary. Successive hybridization and polyploidization events may have resulted in the establishment of high-ploid taxa and complex network-like lineage histories (reticulate evolution).
