LEADERSHIP SUMMARY:
6/2018 to present: Chair and Program Director, Department of Physical Therapy, College of Health
Professions, Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas. Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Health
Professions, provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction while serving as the chair and program director of
the Department of Physical Therapy at Wichita State University.
6/2002 to 7/2018: Director, Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP), J. Iverson Riddle Developmental
Center, Morganton, North Carolina. The Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP) Center for the Advanced
Study of Excellence (CASE) in Early Childhood and Family Support Practices is a National Center of
Excellence in Early Childhood. FIPP serves in the capacity of an applied research and training institute as well
as an early childhood intervention program for children (birth to five years), families, and women who are
pregnant. FIPP is a program of the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center (JIRDC) located in Morganton,
North Carolina. As the Director of FIPP provided leadership, supervision, and strategic direction of the regional
early intervention and research program with both state and grant employees. The FIPP budget varied from 1.6
to 3.2 million based on state budget and active grants. During tenure at FIPP, the number of employees ranged
from 26-60 serving approximately 1000 families and young children annually. FIPP also served a significant
role in providing interdisciplinary professional development locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Over the last 15 years, FIPP provided training, fieldwork experiences, and internships to over 15,000
professional learners.
1995 to 2000: Core Faculty, Maternal and Child Health Interdisciplinary (LEND) Program - Leadership
Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Program. As part of role as an assistant
professor at OUHSC, served as the core faculty member from the Rehabilitation Sciences Department for the
graduate LEND program. Assisted with writing the initial grant and initiating this program, which continues
today. Worked with other faculty with a small cadre of students representing OT, PT, nursing, neonatology
residents, social work, speech-language pathology learning how to work together on team projects. Facilitated
seminar sessions, supervised capstone projects, and provided lectures across program areas on early intervention
and family-centered care content. The purpose of the LEND training program is to improve the health of infants,
children, and adolescents with disabilities by preparing trainees from diverse professional disciplines to assume
leadership roles in their respective fields and by ensuring high levels of interdisciplinary clinical competence.
1990 to 2002: Coordinator SoonerStart Motor Services. As part of role as assistant professor at OUHSC,
recruited, hired and supervised all occupational and physical therapists working for the SoonerStart early
intervention program, Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). The OUHSC Department of Physical
Therapy maintained an ongoing contract with OSDH in support of this leadership role. Specific responsibilities:
provide training, recruitment, and oversight of all occupational and physical therapists working in early
intervention. Also maintained a caseload of 5-6 families with infants or toddlers enrolled in the SoonerStart
program. Developed the program from having hired no OT or PT staff to employment of 44 therapists over a
four-year period.
1990 to 2002: Project Director, Project EFFORT. Evaluating For Functional Outcomes in Rehabilitative
Therapies, Tolbert Center for Oklahoma State Department of Human Services. As part of role as assistant
professor at OUHSC developed the contract and process with the Oklahoma State Department of Human
Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities to oversee occupational therapists, physical therapists, and
speech-language pathologists providing community-based therapeutic services for young adults and adults with
severe disabilities. This contract alleviated a long-standing waiting list for services, improved the quality of
supports provider to consumers, and significantly decreased Medicaid costs.
6/1985 to 5/1990: Director of Physical Therapy, Pauls Valley State School, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
Served in the role as Director of the Physical Therapy Department supervising seven physical therapists, a large
student intern program, seven physical therapy assistants, and providing supports and services for approximately
200 individuals with significant disabilities. Also worked directly with a caseload of 22 residents.

at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), the institution moved from providing
undergraduate education and expanded to post-professional master’s degrees, entry-level master’s degrees for
both OT and PT, and an interdisciplinary doctoral program in Allied Health Sciences. Held significant role in
developing the required documents for submission of approval and subsequent accreditation of the pediatric and
leadership components of our DPT program. Also involved in expanding undergraduate program to include the
Tulsa campus. While at OUHSC taught face-to-face courses (on both campuses), used distance-technology to
teach across both campuses, and developed and delivered web-based courses (both synchronous and
asynchronous) across both campuses and to graduate students in the OUHSC program from all over the country.
Also served on and chaired thesis and interdisciplinary doctoral committees in addition to performing existing

Orelena Hawks Puckett Institute (OHPI) is a not-for-profit organization engaging in activities that enhance and
promote healthy child, parent, and family functioning. OHPI’s goal is to foster adoption of evidence-based
practices that build on the capacities and strengths of children, parents, families, communities, and public and
private organizations. OHPI research-to-practice activities emphasize positive aspects of behavior that support
and strengthen child, parent, and family development. The Puckett Institute is dedicated to the advancement of
policies and practices that are respectful and sensitive to cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity. As
an associate research scientist, was responsible for overseeing special projects, grants, and professional

development. As a researcher was assigned to an Office of Special Education Program (OSEP) grant, Research
and Training Center on Evidence-Based Practices in Early Childhood Intervention.
