Program Committee of Midwestern Psychological Association Vice-chairman of the Research Committee of the Indiana Chapter of the American

Diabetes Association, 1986-1987 Chairman of the Research Committee of the Indiana Chapter of the American Diabetes

Association, 1987 - 1988 Indiana Heart Association Research Committee member Member of Research Committee, Indiana University Diabetes Research and Training

Center Organizer of Annual Vagal Research Group Meeting at the Society for Neurosciences Member of Board of Directors, Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior Member of Organizing Committee, International Symposium on Brain-Gut Interactions Member NIDDK (of NIH) Strategic Planning Committee Research Interests I am interested in the role of the central nervous system in energy homeostasis. In

particular, my current research efforts are focused on identifying and mapping the autonomic, endocrine, and somatic pathways involved in the control of feeding and metabolism. Because of the pivotal role the vagus nerve plays in such processes, much of my recent research has concentrated on generating a taxonomy of vagal motor and sensory endings, mapping their distributions, and correlating their operations with function. My research program also includes neuroanatomical, physiological and behavioral analyses of a variety of different animal syndromes characterized by disturbances of feeding, body weight regulation, and metabolism.
