THE SETTING

The action takes place at the mansion of Professor Tommy Towers on the outskirts of the Egyptian city of Luxor. It is 1923, and Professor Towers' parlor reflects the Art Deco style of that period. UP CENTER is an entrance leading to a terrace. We see the railing beyond, and perhaps the palms and pyramids of Egypt in the distance. Entrances are LEFT (leading to the study, dining room, and kitchen) and RIGHT (leading to the main hall and another stairway to the second floor guest rooms). A table set with several chairs UP LEFT. A fireplace DOWN RIGHT, its mantel set with beautiful Egyptian artifacts including a golden hawk. UP RIGHT is a screen. At CENTER RIGHT a chair and couch grouping. A desk and telephone

DOWN LEFT. Egyptian symbols and artwork fill the room, evidence of Professor Towers' love of his adopted country.

SYNOPSIS

The discovery of King Rottenlux's tomb outside the ancient Egyptian city of Luxor has brought together some of the world's most illustrious people. Assembled at Professor Tommy Towers' estate to view the treasures of the tomb are his willful wife, his jealous secretary, a ne'er-do-well nephew with feuding girlfriends on each arm, a ruthless Hollywood director, two vengeful movie starlets, a mysterious fortuneteller, a secretive graduate assistant, and rival tabloid reporters. Is it any wonder that the Professor -- now a multi-millionaire--quickly meets his end when a cobra injects its deadly poison into his veins? Though warned by the fortuneteller that the possessions in the King's tomb were cursed, Towers laughed off the prospects. It's no laughing matter when a second member of the party is carried off to the tar pits by the ghost of King Rottenlux himself!

A third member of the party has seen something unusual, and desperately tries to tell super-sleuth Jessica Maples, author of 687 mystery novels. Unfortunately, the poor girl dies at the hands of the killer before she can reveal her secret.

Not to worry. Jessica, with the help of the great Belgian detective Hercules Porcchop, uncovers many secrets hidden by the weekend guests. As if weaving a net, they piece together the threads of the mystery until they ensnare the clever, vicious killer.
