Cursillo Commission Members Meet with Bishop Benhase
Several members of the Cursillo Commission (Jim Drazdowski, Commission Chair; The Rev’d Will Carter, Diocesan Spiritual Director; The Rev’d Jim Parker; and Allison Clarkson) met with Bishop Benhase on February 10 to discuss the Bishop’s desires and support of Cursillo in Georgia. Bishop Benhase agreed to issue a Pastoral letter stating his support and goals. He reaffirmed that he supports the Cursillo Movement, especially as it helps meets the goals of the Diocese of Georgia and strengthens parishes. He said that he intends to celebrate at Cursillo closings when possible, including Cursillo #116 on March 7.
Jim Drazdowski reviewed the status of Cursillo, advising the Bishop that there will be two Cursillos annually…one in the Spring and the other in the Fall…as decided by the Commission. The proposed dates of the weekends through 2011 were given to the Bishop. Jim relayed that costs for a Cursillo weekend (for both team members and participants) continue to be an issue, as is the time away for young parents. It was also noted that many of the leaders in individual parishes were Cursillistas. A major goal of Cursillo, therefore, is to help individuals deepen their faith, leading to increased parish leadership. As another goal of the movement is concentration on the Fourth Day experience, Fr. Parker suggested encouraging priests to thoroughly review applications of proposed participants to assure that they were ready for the experience. Fr. Carter suggested that visiting clericus meetings within the diocese to discuss the importance of Cursillo to individual parishes and the diocese might help re-energize the movement.

Palanca Please separate participant palanca from team palanca and alphabetize both. Indicate (on a post-it note, not on envelope) whether participant or team, and which day palanca should be received. Palanca must fit into a standard size business envelope or into the Palanca Bag. No Large Gifts may be sent as Palanca; they may be given at Wake-Up Sunday morning, after Clausura, or at Welcome Home Ultreyas. Thank you for your support of God’s Church.
Prayers Prayer is essential for the success of any weekend, and comes in many forms…in the work and preparation of the Team, intentional prayers of the people on the Prayer Vigil, and prayers of the whole community for the participants and team during the weekend. It is your prayers for everyone involved that God will hear and answer. Cards, letters, and remembrances are just a symbol of prayer, the true Palanca.
Wake-Up and Clausura Arrive for wake-up at 6:00 AM and go directly to Bishops’ Hall for the 6:30 AM wake-up. Only one person…preferably the sponsor…will bring the participant to Stuart Hall. Others will be told where to wait for the participants. Participants are now told to be ready to begin the day at 6:30 AM. Arrive at the Chapel for Clausura no later than 3:45 PM. Please keep cell phone use to a minimum on the Honey Creek campus. Cell phones and flash photography are not permitted in the Chapel. Always keep the noise level in the Chapel down, as this is a place of worship.
