From TheatreVCU Interim Chair

RON KELLERI want to personally welcome you to TheatreVCU and to our 2015-16 Season. The year is already off to a wonderful and exciting start and we thank you for being here to share the adventure with us.

Welcome to David Emerson Toney as our Artistic Director! We are all energized by the vision he is bringing to that position. I also welcome new faculty Bostin Christopher, James Stover, Thomas Cunningham and EunJin Cho.

We all welcome and are excited about our new partnerships with Richmond theater companies. The students, alumni and faculty of TheatreVCU have a long tradition of being involved in producing engaging and entertaining work at all of these theaters and we are working on finding even more ground for collaboration. We urge you to support all of the theater artists working in Richmond theater by seeing all of the wonderful shows that are planned for the season.

I want to welcome Clay McLeod Chapman back as we produce another of his amazing plays. We were so fortunate to have Clay and Hanna Cheek here for the opening week of the semester. They were stunning in their performances of The Pumpkin Pie Show.

Finally, I want to welcome all of our students to the start of a great year. You are the reason we are here and we celebrate the growth of your artistry. You make us so very proud and we are honored to share your work with our audiences.

My very best to you!

From TheatreVCU Artistic Director

DAVID EMERSON TONEYHello,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new Artistic Director of TheatreVCU. Let me also welcome you to our seventy-third year at TheatreVCU. Please take the time to take note our upcoming season.

JUNTA HIGH: This explosive, raw use of language rips and tears as it falls upon the ears.

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW: Come celebrate and explore your inner transvestite!!!

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE RADIO SHOW: This Christmas classic is brought to life and presented in the style of a 40’s radio-drama, including sound effects and all. It will be a short run, so get your tickets early.

IN THE NEXT ROOM OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY: Discover what these Victorian women learn about themselves, their bodies, and about the relationships with the men in their lives.

HIV/AIDS RELATED STAGE READINGS: The heroism, the pain and the loss are still with us and should not be forgotten.

URINETOWN: It’s a musical. About Urine. In a town. And they sing about it. It’s great. You don’t believe me? It was nominated for 10 tony awards. It won 3. It’s good.

And that’s our season. A season to experience new worlds and realities…to feel the pain of another’s loss…to laugh…cry…throw popcorn and sing along. So fasten your seat belt. It’s going to be one heck of a ride.
