Dear Friends in Christ,
During the past week, we mailed every registered parishioner a letter about participating in the Bishop’s Annual Appeal (BAA) for this year. If you do not receive this mailing by the end of the week, please contact the parish office. We may not have your correct contact information. As you know, the BAA is normally completed by now, but there is no “normal” this year.
On Tuesday, our Business Manager, Chuck Iacobucci, and I met with a structural engineer who has been hired by the Diocese of Columbus to inspect all churches that are more than one hundred years old (our church was dedicated in 1898). The engineer was very pleased with the condition of the church, especially the wooden structure that supports the roof. The stonework of the bell tower is also very sound. The engineer pointed out some small things that need repair and maintenance, but overall we passed with a high grade. It’s good to know that our church is not only beautiful, but also stable and safe.

“SHINE LIKE STARS”We are finishing our long-term project of restoring all the stained-glass windows in the church and the last window to be restored will be re-installed in the North transept this month. The scaffolding currently set up in the South transept will also allow us to paint the walls and ceilings to match the painting executed last year in the North transept. Renting the large and highly specialized scaffolding is costing a little more than $9,000.00. To defray that cost, we are asking parishioners to sponsor one or more of the gold stars that were painted on the transept ceiling. There are about 160 stars, and you can sponsor one or more for just $50.00 each. If every star is sponsored, that will defray the cost of the scaffolding. You may mail in a check, or place your contribution in an envelope marked “shine like stars” and put it in the collection basket at Mass. All contributions will be acknowledged in the bulletin, so please include your name with your contribution (unless you wish to be anonymous).
Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world (Philippians 2:14-15)

scheduling those in high risk age groups. This has put us in great need of volunteers to cover openings.

The theme of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, “Living the Joy of the Gospel,” inspires us, as people of faith, to share joyfully the Good News of Christ to those who most need to feel His love as we continue His work on earth as faithful disciples. The Appeal makes possible the many good works facilitated by the Office of Social Concerns and the Office of Marriage and Family Life, contributes to the education of our future priests and deacons, and supports the education of our young people in their faith. These are just a few examples of the many ministries and programs supported by your gift to the Appeal. Together, we can bring hope that can change lives.

“Brillar Como Las Estrellas”Estamos terminando nuestro proyecto de largo plazo que es restaurar todas las ventanas de vidreo de la iglesia y la última ventana que se restaurará se reinstalará este mes. El andamio actualmente establecido al lado de la ventana que se esta restaurando también nos permitirá pintar las paredes y techos para que coincida con la pintura diseñada el año pasado en el lado Norte. Alquilar el andamio grande y alto especializado está costando un poco más de $9,000. Para sufragar ese costo, estamos pidiendo a los feligreses que patrocinen una o más de las estrellas de oro que se pintaron en el techo de la ventana. Hay alrededor de 160 estrellas, y puede patrocinar una o más por solo $50 cada una. Si cada estrella es patrocinada, eso sufragará el costo del andamio. Puede enviar por correo un cheque, o colocar su contribución en un sobre marcado como “brillar como las estrellas” y ponerlo en la cesta de la colección en la Misa. St. Vincent de Paul Update
We are pleased to announce that thanks to the dedication of some of our volunteers and the charity of our parishioners, we have remained open to serve clients in our pantry throughout the pandemic. The Catholic Foundation has awarded us $15,0000.00 in grant monies to secure the purchase of food from Mid Ohio Food Bank to feed those in need. This gift, along with other community grants and generous donations from parishioners and community members, has allowed us to stock our pantry in abundance.
The Thrift Center reopened on May 12th and is currently operating Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. We are striving to abide by all of the CDC recommendations for sanitation and social distancing. We ask all volunteers and clients to wear a face mask while in our building. We are short on volunteers to man our sales desk and welcome volunteers under the age of 70 to lend a hand. We are accepting donations on a limited basis as our space allows for quarantining and processing by our limited number of sorting volunteers. Please call ahead to check the status of donation acceptance or to volunteer. We are extremely grateful for all of the support we receive from St. Mary Church. May God bless you for your goodness.

Spirit of Peace Clinical Counseling Heidi Walter, LISW-S, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who provides private Christian counseling services in the Commons. The counseling is open to all parishioners and community members. Heidi treats adolescents, teens, and adults, and brings several areas of expertise such as depression, anxiety, addiction, family concerns, and more. Adult Formation forSacraments beginning in September!Are you or someone you know desiring Baptism or Holy Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic Church? These three Sacraments are what the Catholic Church calls the Sacraments of Initiation because they initiate us fully into the Christian Life – that we may live and grow in our new life in Christ and enter into the mysteries of our salvation that Jesus Christ won for us.
Our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program is now organizing our next group of adults for the 2020-2021 year. If you are not Catholic but would like to be or if you are Catholic but have not received all your Sacraments of Initiation, we will begin our journey toward the Sacraments on September 15 and will meet every Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m. through Pentecost. Those who are ready to receive the Sacraments will do so at the Easter Vigil on April 3, 2021.

St. Mary’s Summer Retreat Days!Looking for something spiritually refreshing? Each of the remaining months of summer, the Adult Faith Formation office will host a Summer Retreat. Each retreat will be outdoors at Sacred Heart Church property in Cardington (the parking lot at St. Mary can be a bit noisy so we will head to the country)! Bring your lawn chair, lunch, beverage, snacks, umbrella and bug spray – just in case the critters are out that day! Restrooms will be open. It is important for safe distancing practices that you reserve your place ahead of time for these retreats. We will have to halt registration at 15 people for each. Participants may attend the regularly scheduled Masses these days at St. Mary or Sacred Heart. KATERI TEKAKWITHA RETREAT – THE CROSS, EUCHARIST, and MARY: Tuesday, July 28, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Pavillion of Sacred Heart Church Property, Cardington.Our first adventure will be a retreat on the Spirituality of St. Kateri Tekakwitha. We will learn a little about St. Kateri, the Mohawk saint. We will have time to pray the Office as a group, as well as, have ample individual prayer reflecting on three main areas of St. Kateri’s spirituality – the Cross, the Eucharist, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Kateri’s spirituality is simple in structure but incredibly profound and it brings one to the heart of love for Jesus and Mary. Bring a lawn chair because we will be moving to different prayer stations on the grounds.
MARY, TEACH US TO FOLLOW GOD’S WILL: Saturday, August 22, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Pavillion of Sacred Heart Church Property, Cardington.Our second adventure will be a retreat on Following God’s will for our lives with Mary our Mother. Again there will be different prayer stations set around the grounds in order to reflect upon different events in the life of Our Blessed Mother in order to learn from her how best to follow God’s will.
THE ANGELS: Tuesday, September 29 (Feast of the Holy Archangels – Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael), from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Pavillion of Sacred Heart's Church Property, Cardington.Our third adventure will be a day reflecting upon and praying with the angels. We will have the same format of various stations around the grounds with Scriptural readings and reflections on the angels. We will also reflect upon the guardian angels and the choirs of angels.

Si tiene dos padrinos, tiene que ser un hombre y una mujer. Si están casados, deben estar casados por la Iglesia Católica, asistir regularmente a la Santa Misa del Domingo, y que estén viviendo su fe. Los padrinos no necesitan ser pareja. Si los padrinos son solteros, deben estar viviendo una vida honesta y casta (continencia, pureza). Las personas que viven con una pareja fuera del matrimonio no son elegibles para ser padrinos.
MATRIMONIO – La Pareja debe tener una reunión con al sacerdote por lo menos seis meses antes de programar la boda. Por lo menos una persona debe estar registrada y estar practicando su fe.
