Many traditionalists start with a standard Martin model and modify it to fit

their particular needs. Or, you can customize a standard model with just about

any combination of Martin appointments and body sizes.

There are virtually limitless custom instrument possibilities by mixing and

matching our various body sizes with different appointments. Add to this

special pearl work, custom inlays, select tone woods, trims, tuners, finishes

and other appointments, and your dream guitar will become a reality.

When you order a custom Martin instrument, you can be assured that it will

be crafted with impeccable care, attention to detail and, above all, enduring

value. It will also include a limited lifetime warranty to you the original

When it comes to

sound ,

size matters.

Martin guitars are built in many sizes and shapes utilizing a variety of

materials that produce different tones, some subtle and some dramatic.

Dreadnoughts, for example, are especially favored by rhythm players

for their loud volume and pronounced bass. Smaller-bodied guitars,

such as 0, 00, 000 and OMs, produce a more balanced sound with

an emphasis on treble and midrange. These guitars are ideal for

fingerpicking and single-note playing styles. When it comes to guitars,

size definitely matters, so choose carefully.



Wood is the soul.

No other maker has more experience in selecting, aging, working and

finishing tonewoods than C. F. Martin & Co. When designing your

custom guitar, you can choose from a diverse array of premium

tonewoods, from the exotic to the traditional, each with its own unique

character, color, figure, texture and tonal qualities. Like body sizes,

woods have a distinct influence on sound, ranging from clear ringing

trebles to warm bass and midrange to everything in between.

What’s more, Martin’s expertly-applied finishes not only protect wood and

enhance sound, but they provide ways to visually customize your instrument.

These finishes include sunburst, solid color and vintage “aged” lacquers.



Appointment styles range from

simple elegance to

the most ornate – you decide.

In addition to traditional woodworking, Martin has a long history of pearl

artistry, delicate marquetry, multi-level bindings, custom pickguards and

the like. Working closely with some of the country’s most skilled pearl

artisans, we can execute the most complex of inlay designs. As you can

see from the one-of-a-kind Martins shown on these pages, custom designs

can be truly spectacular!



Just your style.Playability is one of the most critical details of a new custom guitar, and

a lot of it has to do with the neck. A comfortable neck is one that is easy

to play in terms of action (height of the string above the fret), string

tension and neck width.

If you’re accustomed to playing electric, you’ll probably want low action

on an acoustic. The same goes for lead players, either electric or acoustic.

Acoustic rhythm players or slide players generally want higher action.

Flatpickers and rhythm players prefer narrow necks. Fingerpickers, with

their need for greater string spacing, prefer wide necks. You alone are the

best judge of the “right” playability.
