Customers must verify eligibility to use King County recycling and garbage facilities Beginning June 16, 2021, the King County Solid Waste Division will require customers who come to a King County recycling and garbage facility to show proof they live or do business within King County’s 37-city and unincorporated service area, which excludes the cities of Seattle and Milton. The only exception is that Seattle residents are eligible to use the household hazardous waste drop-off services at the Factoria Recycling & Transfer Station in Bellevue. Proof that you live in the service area includes: Government-issued identification, such as a driver’s license Vehicle registration Utility bill Rental agreement Cell phone bill Pay stub Proof that you do business in the service area Job site invoice with a ZIP Code People who live in the cities of Seattle and Milton, and in Pierce County and Snohomish County, will not be allowed at King County facilities because those jurisdictions provide their own recycling and garbage services to their residents and businesses. What is the basis for this rule? King County Code 10.08.020E, which became law in 1986, states that waste generated outside the service area cannot be accepted at King County facilities. This is similar to waste disposal rules in other cities and counties. King County is enforcing this rule to preserve critical services, landfill space, and access to essential waste disposal and recycling services for those who pay for building and maintaining the waste disposal system. Page 1: Customers must verify eligibility to use King County

Customers must verify eligibility to use King County recycling and garbage facilitiesBeginning June 16, 2021, the King County Solid Waste Division will require customers who come to a King County recycling and garbage facility to show proof they live or do business within King County’s 37-city and unincorporated service area, which excludes the cities of Seattle and Milton. The only exception is that Seattle residents are eligible to use the household hazardous waste drop-off services at the Factoria Recycling & Transfer Station in Bellevue.

Proof that you live in the service area includes:• Government-issued identification,

such as a driver’s license• Vehicle registration• Utility bill• Rental agreement• Cell phone bill• Pay stub

Proof that you do business in the service area• Job site invoice with a ZIP Code

People who live in the cities of Seattle and Milton, and in Pierce County and Snohomish County, will not be allowed at King County facilities because those jurisdictions provide their own recycling and garbage services to their residents and businesses.
