Customizing Microsoft Word Documents

Step 1: Download the Word file you want to customize from www.ala.org/ala/aboutala/offices/ppo/programming/ltai/ltailovessn.cfm.

Step 2: Open the Word document in Microsoft Word, click on Insert on the top menu, then select Text Box.

Step 3: You may see a large box with text that reads “Create your drawing here.” If so, ignore it and scroll using the scroll bar on the right to where you want the new text to appear on the Word document.

Step 4: Click to position the text box.

Step 5: You can move the text box by clicking on the border and dragging the box, holding down the mouse button until the box is positioned correctly. You can also resize the box by clicking on one of the circles and moving the mouse, releasing the mouse button when the box is at the correct size.

Step 6: Type your text into the box.

Step 7: Format the text as you would any other text in Word.

Step 8: To eliminate the text box border, right click on the box frame and select Format Text Box...

Step 9: Under Line, click on the box next to Color: and select No Line. You can also change the border as well as the text box background color here.

Step 10: The finished product. The steps above can be repeated to include text in other areas of the document.
