1. Guard with defined adjustment range (TS 700 only)

1.1 Adjustment range

The STIHL Cutquik® TS 700 cut-off machine guard adjustment range (A and B respectively) will be determined by the stop pin (1) installed into the cast arm and by the lugs (arrows) molded onto the guard (2).

1.2 Support

With the introduction of the guard with defined adjustment range (see b 1.1), the previous support (1) 4224 791 3900 is being replaced by the new version (2) 4224 791 3903.

The new support differs by a thread (3) for installation of the stop pin (see b 1.4) and additional holes (4) for fastening the limit stop (see b 1.5).

Spare partsThe previous stop 4224 791 3900 without thread and without additional holes is no longer available. The new version 4224 791 3903 can also be used for older machines with the previous support 4224 791 3900.

1.3 Guard

The previous guard dia. 350 mm (4224 700 8102) is being replaced by the new version 4224 700 8108.

The new guard dia. 350 mm differs from the previous version by the molded lugs (arrows), which, together with the stop pins (see b 1.4) installed into the guard (see b 1.2), define the adjustment range (see b 1.1) of the guard.

Spare partsThe previous guard dia. 350 mm (4224 700 8102) remains available for older machines.

Service notesThe previous guard dia. 350 mm (4224 700 8102) may only be installed in machines with the previous guard.

The new guard dia. 350 mm (4224 700 8108) may only be installed in machines with the new guard.

1.4 Stop pin

With the introduction of the new guard (see b 1.3), the stop pin (1) 4224 691 0100 and the limit stop (see b 1.5) are being introduced. The stop pin (1) installed into the support (2) together with the lugs molded onto the guard (see b 1.3), determine the adjustment range (see b 1.1).

Tightening torques

1.5 Limit stop

With the introduction of the new guard (see b 1.3), the limit stop (1) 4224 691 0200 and the stop pin (see b 1.4) are being introduced. The limit stop (1) is fastened to the support with the new pan head self-tapping screw IS-P4x10 (2) (9074 478 2967).

Tightening torques

1.6 Rubber buffer

The new stop pin (1, see b 1.4) installed into the support and the lugs cast onto the guard (see b 1.3) determine the adjustment range (see b 1.1), the rubber buffer (2) 4224 790 9300 and the screw IS-M5x6-10.9 (3) (9022 341 0910) have been eliminated.

Spare partsThe previous versions of the rubber buffer 4224 790 9300 and the screw IS-M5x6-10.9 (9022 341 0910) remain available for older machines.

1.7 Crankcase

With the introduction of the new guard with a defined adjustment range (see b 1.1), the shape of the crankcase (arrows) is being changed. The previous crankcase (1) 4224 020 2903 is being replaced by the new version (2) 4224 020 2910.

Spare partsThe previous crankcase 4224 020 2903 is no longer available. The new version 4224 020 2910 can also be used for older machines.

1.8 Starter cover

With the introduction of the new guard with a defined adjustment range (see b 1.1), the shape of the starter cover (arrows) is being changed. The previous starter cover (1) 4224 190 0410 is being replaced by the new version (2) 4224 190 0412.

With the introduction of the new starter cover, the previous "Starter cover with rewind starter" 4224 190 0304 is being replaced by the new version 4224 190 0306.

Spare partsThe previous versions of the "Starter cover with rewind starter" 4224 190 0304 and the starter cover 4224 190 0410 are no longer available. The new versions of the "Starter cover with rewind starter" 4224 190 0306 and the starter cover 4224 190 0412 can also be used for older machines.

1.9 Reconfiguring the "support with guard" – from guard on the inboard side to guard on the outboard side

The "support with guard" is mounted on the inboard side by the manufacturer.

The "support with guard" can also be mounted on the outboard side depending on requirements.

Assembly on the inboard side is recommended for better balance.

. Remove the abrasive wheel

Remove water attachment

. Loosen the banjo bolt (1) with the combination wrench – in the process, remove the square nut from the inside of the guard from the guide

. Remove the water hose (2) with connector from the adjusting lever (3)

Remove the adjusting lever

. Loosen the banjo bolt (1) with the combination wrench and remove it together with the seal – in the process, remove the square nut from the inside of the guard from the guide

. Remove bolt (2)

. Turn the adjusting lever (3) upwards and remove

Slacken the V-belt

. Loosen the hexagon head screws (1) – do not remove them

. Turn the tensioning nut (2) counterclockwise with the combination wrench – approx. 1/4 turn, max. to stop = 0

. Remove hexagon head screws (1)

For machines with the new V-belt guard (see b 3):

. Loosen the captive nuts – do not remove

. Turn the tensioning nut (2) counterclockwise with the combination wrench – approx. 1/4 turn, max. to stop = 0

. Remove the captive nuts from studs

Remove the V-belt guard

. Slide V-belt guard (1) off to the front and remove the poly V-belt (2) from the front pulley (3)

. Remove the "support with guard" (4)

Preparing the "support with guard" for outboard mounting

. Remove the bolt (1) from the limit stop (2)

. Remove the limit stop (2)

. Remove stop pin (3)

. Turn the guard so it is in the position shown (see picture)

. Install and tighten the stop pin (3)

. Insert limit stop (2) – align the hole in the limit stop with the hole in the support

. Install the screw (1) and tighten

. Move the adjusting lever (4) to position (A)


. Turn the "support with guard" so that the guard is on the outboard side

. Insert the square nut into the guide in the guard and hold it in place

. Install the shorter banjo bolt (6) and washer at the adjusting lever and tighten with the combination wrench

Mount "support with guard" – guard on the outboard side

. Fit the "support with guard" (1) on the outboard side – at the same time, guide the poly V-belt over the belt pulley

. Check that belt moves easily

. Install the V-belt guard (2) into place

. Align the threaded holes in the support with the holes in the V-belt guard

. Install the screws (3) – do not tighten

For machines with the new V-belt guard (see b 3):

. Install the V-belt guard (2) into place

. Fit the captive nuts and thread them onto the studs by hand – do not tighten

Connect water connection

. Insert the longer banjo bolt (1) through the connector (2) of the water attachment – observe the position of the connector

. Insert the square nut into the guide in the guard and hold it in place

. Fit the support with the longer banjo bolt on the adjusting lever (3) – install the banjo bolt and tighten with the combination wrench

. Tension the ribbed V-belt

Check the adjustment range of the guard

. Rotate the guard forwards and backwards as far as possible – adjustment range (A) must be limited by the stop pin

1.10 Inboard mounting. Remove abrasive wheel

. Remove the adjusting lever

. Slacken the V-belt

. Remove the V-belt guard

. Remove poly V-belt

. Remove "support with guard"

Preparing the "support with guard" for inboard mounting

. Remove the bolt (1) from the limit stop (2)

. Remove the limit stop (2)

. Remove stop pin (3)

. Turn the guard so that it is in the position shown (see picture)

. Install and tighten the stop pin (3)

. Insert limit stop (2) – align the hole in the limit stop with the hole in the support


. Install the adjusting lever

. Mount "support with guard" – guard on the inboard side

. Fit the ribbed poly V-belt

. Install the V-belt guard

. Connect water connection

. Tension the ribbed V-belt

Check the adjustment range of the guard

2.1 Set of instruction labels 0000 960 0101(TS 700)

Previous TS 700 instruction label (1) 0000 967 3521 and instruction label (2) 0000 967 3520 are being replaced by the new "Set of instruction labels" (3) 0000 960 0101.

Spare parts/service notesThe previous versions of instruction label (1) 0000 967 3521 and instruction label (2) 0000 967 3520 are no longer available. The new "set of instruction labels" (3) 0000 960 0101 can also be used with older STIHL TS 700 cut-off machines.

Always attach both instruction labels in the new "set of instruction labels" (3) 0000 960 0101.

3. Securing of the V-belt guard

3.1 Support, V-belt guard (TS 700)

The previous versions of the support (1) 4224 791 3903 and the belt guard (2) 4224 700 8100 are being replaced by the new versions of the support (3) 4224 790 5301 and the belt guard (4) 4224 700 8113.

The new belt guard (4) has captive nuts that are secured against loss (5) which, together with the studs (6) of the new support (3), form the screwed connection. The previous screws (7) 4224 708 8400 (3x) are no longer required.

Spare partsThe previous versions of the support 4224 791 3903, the belt guard 4224 700 8100 and the screw 4224 708 8400 remain available for older machines.

Service notesPrevious versions of the support 4224 791 3903, the belt guard 4224 700 8100 and the screws 4224 708 8400 may not be combined with the new versions of the support 4224 790 5301 and the belt guard 4224 700 8113.

3.2 Support, V-belt guard (TS 800)

The previous versions of the support (1) 4224 791 3901 and the belt guard (2) 4224 700 8101 are being replaced by the new versions of the support (3) 4224 790 5302 and the belt guard (4) 4224 700 8115.

The new belt guard (4) has captive nuts that are secured against loss (5) which, together with the studs (6) of the new support (3), form the screwed connection. The previous screws (7) 4224 708 8400 (3x) are no longer required.

With the introduction of the new support, the previous "Support with guard dia. 400 mm" (4224 690 0104) is being replaced by the new "Support with guard dia. 400 mm" (4224 690 0120).
