HOW DO PEOPLE GET HURT?
Falling down Getting hit by someone or something If someone says something mean about you When someone says something mean about
you do your feelings get hurt? Do words hurt people?
YES!Why?
HOW DO PEOPLE GET HURT?
Words can hurt people, can you hurt someone when you are talking to them on the computer? How?
Emailing them a mean message that hurts their feelings.
Writing something on your facebook wall that everyone can see.
Breaking into someone else’s email account and sending emails.
Writing hurtful messages in a chat room.
WHAT DO YOU THINK CYBER BULLYING MEANS?
Cyber- online, computers. Have you ever heard of Cyber Space? The
computer world or chatting to friends on line. Bully- Someone who is mean, picks on
people, makes people feel sad or angry.
WHAT IS CYBER BULLYING?
If you know what cyber means and what bully means, what do you think cyber bullying means?
A bully using the computer? Someone hurting someone else’s feelings
with a computer? Someone saying mean things to someone
else on the computer? Cyber Bullying is when a child embarrasses,
threatens or hurts another child’s feelings online.
WHY WOULD YOU CYBER BULLY SOMEONE?
You are mad at them. You think it would be funny to embarrass
someone on the internet. You want them to feel sad and angry. You are bored. You want to get back at them for something
they did to you.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
Being mean to people is not funny. You must always think of what you are doing
before you do it, because you cannot take it back.
Do not use the internet when you are mad at someone.
Anything that happens on the internet is always there, just because you can’t see it, does not mean it is gone.
Feelings are important, you must RESPECT other people’s feelings.

Role Plays may be a good idea depending on your class.
Perhaps a short quiz before and after the presentation to see if answers change.
To keep the information in fresh in their minds a brainstorm of everything learned in the class would be good and keep those answers posted to remind everyone what cyber bullying is, and that it is wrong.
This presentation has been produced by Shannon MacFadyen through Victoria County Community Access Program’s Summer Youth Initiative (CAP YI), a part of Canada’s Youth
Employment Strategy
