such as control of machinery on factory assembly lines, amusement rides, or light fixtures. PLCs are used in many

A. DISCUSSION Start off the lesson by getting the students to discuss the questions.

B. VOCABULARY , MATCH THE SYNONYMS The students need to match the words on the left (words that are in the text), with their synonym on the right. Answers: 1c, 2f, 3a, 4i, 5g, 6b, 7d, 8j, 9e, 10h

C. VOCABULARY , MATCH THE COLLOCATIONS These words form common collocations. Get them to match them up. Answers: 1d, 2h, 3a, 4g, 5b, 6c, 7j, 8e, 9f, 10i

D. COMPREHENSION The students need to read through the text, and answer the comprehension and discussion questions.

E. VOCABULARY REVISION Make flashcards with all the words from Part B (match the synonyms). Place all the flashcards

down on the table, and get the students to play Memory. Each student needs to turn over 2

cards. If they match, they get to keep the pair, if they don’t, they need to give sentences with the

2 words that they turned over. The student with the most pairs at the end, wins.

F. MORE VOCABULARY REVISION Write the common collocations from Part C onto flashcards. Get the students to ask each other

questions, using these collocations.
