Prayer is the work of the whole people of God, so we never pray alone. Through the Holy Spirit, who assists us when we pray, we are drawn into the prayer of the whole Church on earth and in heaven and so deepen our communion with God and with one another and strengthen our hold on eternal life.

The Diocesan Cycle of Prayer is a way of acknowledging our solidarity with one another, as each day, we pray for a particular parish, community or department of St James’ House.

The mystics remind us that it is always God who prays in us; God desires only that we desire to pray, and already knows what we are praying about. So prayer is simply about creating a space within ourselves for God, in Jesus, through the Spirit, to get a word in edgeways: and God can do remarkable things with even the smallest of spaces!

The forms of Daily Prayer (The Office) used in the Church of England are now available online at daily.commonworship.com

We pray for those in authority with whom they work taking difficult decisions in an age of recession and austerity. For those who they support in prison, in university, in college, in hospital, in hospices and so many other contexts may your Holy Spirit enrich the relationships they forge and strengthen those with whom they meet.Amen.
