Christian Louboutin’s flagship store is a shoe boutique located in Maiden Lane, San
Francisco. The concept of the boutique is butterfly’s metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is
a profound change in form from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism,
as from the caterpillar to the pupa and from the pupa to the adult butterfly. The goal from
this concept to the store is to make women who walk into the store feel transformed
the minute they step into the store. The Store Front design was inspired by Maiden
Lane’s initial name, which was the red light district. The red structure and the red sign of
Christian Louboutin is also a historical reference to the district’s red-district reputation.

The concept of Butterfly’s metamorphosis is carried along to the interior. The fixtures on the wall takes the organic form of the butterfly’s wing. The light on the floor depicts the simplified pattern on the wings. The arch structure in the entrance is a symbol of a cocoon that leads customer into the store and gives the transition atmosphere. A little touch of red in the store enhance the signature color of Christian Louboutin shoe design.
