THE VILLAGE OF AGIOI TRIMITHIAS

The village of Agioi Trimithias stands at a distance of almost 18 kilometers southwest of Nicosia. The roadway was constructed a bit after the tragic events of 1974 so as to serve the circulation between Troodos and Nicosia, because part of the already existing one connecting Kokkinotrimithia with Nicosia was occupied by the United Nations. It runs across the village and it used to promote its growth and development.

THE OLD VILLAGE

The old character of the village is still kept in “kato yitonies” (lower neighborhoods), where the narrow alleys lead to adobe buildings of one or two stories, with traditional big doors, on which the escutcheons are still found, with the Cross and the date of establishment.

OUR PRIMARY SCHOOL Our primary school was founded in 1916. Before that the children went to school at Paliometocho, the nearest village .Only in 1960 the school moved in this building with two, three classrooms and 30 children. The last few years there is an increase in the number of students. This year we have 111 students. Also the extension and renovation of the school finished this year, so we have all the necessary classrooms.

THE STATUE OF EVAGORAS PALLIKARIDIS

This statue of Evagoras Palllikaridis is outside our school. Evagoras Pallikaridis died at the age of 18,fighting with E.O.K.A ( National Organization of Cypriot Fighters ) in 1955 for the freedom of our country.The Greekcypriots wanted the union with Greece and to be free from U.K. Finally in 1960 Cyprus was declared an independent country.

OUR CHURCH

The church of Saint Cosmas and Damianos that is now in use. As it is well known, the village is named “Agioi Trimithias” or just “Agioi” (Saints). Thus, its name is dedicated to the Saints and indicates the loyalty and religious dedication of the first inhabitants to Saint Anargyroi, namely Kosmas and Damianos.

THE NEW CHURCH

This is the new church that is being built outside the center of the village, and is bigger than the old one so there is room for more people since our village is growing.It is dedicated to Profet Ilia.

THE CHAPEL OF SAINT RAPHAEL This small church is so beautiful that many people like to have their

wedding ceremony here or baptize their children.

THE COMMUNITY CENTERThe members of the recent Community Council of Agii Trimithias have been elected during the municipal elections of 18/12/2011. The Community Council has many tasks related to the life of the village. One of them is to handle the government funds for the school.

EVAGORAS PALLIKARIDIS ASSOCIATION

This association organizes events and also has it’s own football team. It is a meeting point for the older people and for those who want to watch a football match. Every Friday night they cook “ souvlakia” ( traditional Cyprus food ) for anyone who wants .

OUR YOUTH CENTERIt is a meeting point for the younger of the village. It deals with different subjects that have to do with the customs of the village and sports. It has it’s own handball team .

THE PARKA nice park in the center of the village for our little friends to play after school and during the weekends.

MELIOS PET CENTRE A Wonderful Park The birds and animals are situated in a wonderful setting where the cages

are amongst the trees and plants, with paths that lead you through and around the park.

This are a few information about our village . We can’t wait to have you here in March and show you around all the beautiful places Cyprus has.
