Chevrolet History

• July 27th. 1956 – A group of Colombian Entrepreneurs Directed by Don German Montoya Velez Founded the company “Fabrica de Automotores S.A.” (Colmotores).

• 1961 – The construction of the fabric for the assembling of vehicles was finished.

• They were going to assemble Austin Vehicles.

• Government allows Cars production, incentives for the industry.

• 1962 – The Colmotores’ fabric Openning. Austin trucks, microbuses and vans started to be produced.

• 1965 – Financial problems because of government incentives fail, Chrysles buys 60% of the company.

• 1966 – Chrysler Colmotores produces first car Coronet 440. Other cars produced: Dodge y Simca.

• 1972 – World’s Oil Crisis affects Chrysler industry. Cars industry introduced by then the small, light engines and automobiles of low gasoline consume.

• 1979 – Due to Chrysler’s crisis, General Motors Corporation acquires their participation in Colmotores (60% of shares).

• 1991 - Named General Motors Colmotores S.A. Basic and really important principles at that moment : Quality and Clients Enthusiasm.

• Now a days, GM COLMOTORES assembles 53 vehicle versions in 14 different platforms.

• Placed in the first places not only in the cars industry but in the ranking of the country’s Big enterprises.

• GM COLMOTORES has enormously contributed economically and socially talking, to Colombia, by giving out jobs, technical and financial support to the industry, among others.

• Chevrolet and Sena created a program thinking on the need of the taxi drivers to continue their education by having a technical degree.

• Taxi drivers don't need to pay nor a receipt to gain this privilege.

• The schedule is flexible, you can go to class in the day the taxi has pico y placa.

• Any taxist can enter this program without worrying what car do they have. There are tutorials given by teachers of Sena and they will give some didactic material to study.
