Good Samaritans are invited to join others from around the Diocese in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Memorial March Parade on Monday, January 15. As in past years, Episcopalians will gather at St. Luke’s Church, 600 South Chestnut Street, at 8 AM for breakfast and assembly. The March begins at 10 AM. The Parade route will stretch from Chilhowee Park – Midway Entrance on N. Beaman Street to Harriet Tubman Street. Contact Fr. Jim at [email protected] if you have questions.

The Annual Chili Cook-off is set for Sunday, January 28 at 6:00 pm! We’ll need creative folks to enter their best chili recipes and we’ll need brave folks willing to judge their creative culinary creations! Check out the signup sheets in Henslee Hall and signup NOW!

Beginning in 2016, Good Samaritan made the bold decision to give away the cash plate every Sunday to a charity or worthy cause. Fr. Cal (and many others) thought that it would start out great, but wondered if it could be sustained over time. But with a leap of faith, the Outreach Committee, our clergy and the entire parish forged ahead…with great success, not only for 2016, but throughout 2017 too. In 2016, the cash plate total was $31,576. In 2017, it was $48,439. Thank you for your generosity Good Samaritans! We all look forward to 2018 and the prospects for continued generosity and giving.

The Weekly Cash from the Plate Offering

The cash plate this week will go to Smokey’s Pantry at Tyson House, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Smokey’s Pantry is the first food pantry at the University of Tennessee Knoxville and focuses its services primarily for the students, faculty, and staff of UTK. The pantry is a collaboration between the UT student government, Tyson House, FISH Pantry, and many other partners. Smokey’s Pantry is located in Tyson House (the Lutheran and Episcopal Campus Ministries) and helps distribute food to those in need. Hunger is present on college campuses and is an added stress for studying and working students and faculty. Smokey’s Pantry can provide up to a week’s groceries and hygiene products to anyone in need.

Last week’s offering of $787 has been designated for The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley.
