General rules

1. All competitions except drawing and writing, will have preliminary rounds that will be conducted before the final event. Date and time of preliminary events will be published ahead of time. Only the participants selected in the preliminary round will be allowed to attend the final round.

2. If there is a failure in the internet connection or any technical issues in the participant system at the time/during the performance of the competition, the participant will not get any additional slot/time for the performance on the same day or later.

3. This event is for the students and so we request parents to let the student do their best for the performance during the event. Please do not prompt or help your kids while they are performing during the event.

4. Please pay attention to the topics. They are given based on the class level in MTA or age group..

Art# 1: நா ற பாட ேபா / Folk Songs (Vocal)

⮚ This is a solo competition. ⮚ The time limit is 3 minutes for each participant ⮚ The song should be Tamil folk song ⮚ Focus on Tamil rural culture and emphasis on the traditional values will be an added advantage ⮚ The song should not be mixed with words from other languages ⮚ Should not be a movie song or a religious song or from the ATA book ⮚ Students are required to memorize the song and not to read from the paper or screen ⮚ Parents or anyone should not give any off-stage assistance (i.e. prompting) during competition.

Participants who are receiving any such help or assistance during the competition will result in negative scoring or be disqualified.

Art# 2: த ைச பாட ேபா / Tamil Music Songs (Vocal)

⮚ This is a solo competition. ⮚ The time limit is 3 minutes for each participant ⮚ The following will be an added advantage

o Focus on Tamil culture and expressing the traditional values o Mentioning about Tamil pann (ப ) and thalam (தாள )

⮚ Songs should be secular. Songs referencing any religion or deity won't be considered for the competition.

⮚ The song should not be mixed with words from other languages ⮚ Exclude any folk songs ⮚ Should not be from the ATA book ⮚ Students are required to memorize the song and not to read from the paper or screen ⮚ Parents or anyone, should not give any off-stage assistance (i.e. prompting) during competition.

Participants who are receiving any such help or assistance during the competition will be negative scoring or be disqualified.

Art# 3: ஓ ய ேபா / Drawing Competition

⮚ Please choose the theme for your level from the list below. ⮚ Crayons/Color Pencil/Oil Pastel are allowed. ⮚ No paintis allowed. ⮚ No Stencil is allowed for drawing. ⮚ Drawing sheet should be white in color and is of size A4 . ⮚ There is no preliminary round for this competition. Competition will be held on Sunday March

20th,2022. ⮚ Focus on Tamil culture and emphasis on the traditional values will be added advantage ⮚ Duration for the competition is 60 minutes.

Some of the Criteria for evaluation: ● Interpretation of the theme ● Use of Elements & Principles of Art ● Creativity ● Expression of Tamil culture

⮚ Participants are expected to be in the camera all the time during the competition. ⮚ Once completed, parents should help to upload the copy of the drawing to the Google form

that will be provided before the competition. The upload should happen within 3 minutes after the competition has ended.

⮚ Participants should not go out of the camera focus at any time till the copy of the drawing is uploaded.

Literary# 1: ற ஒ த / Thirukkural Recital

⮚ This is a solo competition and is based on the student's class level in MTA. ⮚ Focus is on the pronunciation of Thirukkural, expression and speed. ⮚ The number of minimum Thirukkurals to recite per class level is given below on the table ⮚ The max time limit is;

● 1 minute for Pre-Mazhalai and Mazhalai participants ● 2 minutes for Level 1 and Level 2 participants ● 3 Minutes for Level 3 to Level 5

⮚ Participants are required to memorize and recite the Thirukkural ⮚ Participants are strictly not allowed to read from the paper or screen ⮚ Parents or anyone should not give any off-stage assistance (i.e. prompting) during competition.

Participants who are receiving any such help or assistance during the competition will result in negative scoring or be disqualified.

⮚ This is a solo competition and this competition is not open to all levels. ⮚ Focus is on the pronunciation of words, expression, and speed. ⮚ Time to recite is 3 minutes for each participant. ⮚ The poems for the Kavithai Recital are listed below. Please choose one of the topics based on the

participant’s class level in the MTA class from the list below. ⮚ Participants are required to memorize the Kavithai to recite; Participants are strictly not allowed to

read from the paper or screen ⮚ Parents or anyone, should not give any off-stage assistance (i.e. prompting) during competition.

Literary# 3: த ேப ேபா / Tamil Speech

⮚ This is a solo competition. This competition is not open to all levels.

⮚ Please choose one of the topics based on the participant’s class level in MTA class from the list below.

⮚ Focus on the competition will be on oral communication, gestures, pronunciations, speed, and content.

⮚ Each student will be given up to 5 minutes for the speech. Students will be signaled (like ringing a bell) between the 3rd and 5th minute to indicate the end of the time slot.

⮚ Participants are required to memorize the speech ⮚ Participants are strictly not allowed to read from the paper or screen ⮚ Parents or anyone should not give any off-stage assistance (i.e. prompting) during competition.

Literary# 4: த எ ேபா / Tamil Writing

⮚ This is a solo competition and this competition is not open to all levels. ⮚ The students will write an essay from one of the topics listed below on the day of the

competition. ⮚ Please choose one of the topics based on the participant’s class level in the MTA class from the

list below. ⮚ Participants are expected to be in the camera focus all the time during the competition. ⮚ Once completed, parents should help to upload the copy of the writing to the Google form that

will be provided before the competition. The upload should happen within 3 minutes after the competition has ended.

⮚ Participants should not go out of the camera at any time till the copy of the writing is uploaded. The time limit for the competition: 45 Minutes.

Literary# 5: ப ம ற / Debate

● This is a team event for students. ● Each team will have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 team members. ● The team will emulate a debate by identifying the roles of Plaintiff (வா ), Defendant

( ர வா ) and Judge ( ப ) within the team. ● Each team member can take a maximum of 3 minutes to present their statement. ● Parents help to form/build a team of students , coordinate and train for the debate. ● Teams will be judged based on content, presentation and debate skills. ● Teams can get bonus points by limiting the usage of non-Tamil words. ● Parents or anyone should not give any off-stage assistance (i.e. prompting) during

competition. Participants who are receiving any such help or assistance during the competition will result in negative scoring or be disqualified.

Tamil Debate (Level 3 and above)

Literary# 6: க ேணா கா பெத லா ?/ What do you see?

● This is a solo event and not for all levels ● Pictures will be shared to the registered student email address ahead of time of the competition ● This is for levels Pre-M, Mazhalai, Level 1 and Level 2 ● Judges will not prompt or provide any hints during the event ● Parents can print out the picture(s) or share them from the screen during the event. ● For Pre-Mazhalai and Mazhalai students, the rule is:

○ Identify and describe the picture ● For Level 1 and Level 2 Students, the rules are :

○ Identify the picture ○ Describe the picture briefly

● The winner will be decided based on the usage of Tamil words and fluency ● The max time limit is

○ 1 minute for PreMazhalai and Mazhalai participants ○ 2 minutes for Level 1 and Level 2 participants

● Participants should elaborate based on the picture given by MTA for each level. ● Participant’s answers should not be mixed with words from other languages. ● Parents or anyone, should not give any off-stage assistance (i.e. prompting) during
