Words from the LTG

Hey Yetis! Get ready to get your butts in gear! Fall Rally is lit-

erally a month away and that means we are going to be on

fundraising crack. We will always have two division fundraisers

running at once, and I expect each club to do one more on

top of that. This years trip is definitely bound to be a good, I can

feel it, and I am positive that with enough practice we will win

that spirit stick.

With all the stress we are facing right now I want us all to

breathe! Breathe IN… Breathe OUT… Breather IN… Breathe OUT!

Now be positive, happy, and SMILE :D

I just want to thank everyone that has helped keep our divi-

sion strong and together. You know who you are! I really could-

n’t have done what I have been doing without your help. Just

keep it up and stay amazing, ok.

I hope you have all been doing great, just another re-

minder we are all here for one another. We all got each others

backs and we are a family, an ohana. As corny as that sounds it

is true, just know you can count on me to help you with any

problems you have. Except science, don’t ask me to help you

with science. Remember: Keep it Classy, Never Trashy

Live everyday like it’s your last,

because one day it will be

August DCM: August 24

The Key Clubs of Division 23 met up on August 24 to discuss a myriad of things.

We got lots of work done and even discussed more of our plan of action for Fall Rally

North. Now that we know who is in our rally, we are even more pumped and deter-

mined.

Thanks to Pizza Hut we got a free pizza lunch which was amazing especially

considering the DCM was over three hours long. Within those three hours, we learned

so much and are now ready to start teaching our new members.

Keep Calm it’s Only an Extra Chromosome: August 24

Members from the Reed and Wooster Key Clubs of Division were invited to host

a basketball workshop for the campers of Camp Lotsafun, a camp that tends to the

needs of people with physical or mental difficulties. We played different games as

well as taught them the basics like dribbling and shooting.

Kiwanis DCON: Reloading the Truck: August 17

Another exhausting event for Kiwanis DCON, they’re welcome! We

loaded back all of the things that we unloaded days before. Luckily for us

this time we had the Circle from UNR help us. It definitely was much easier

loading the truck then it was unloading it. Also having Circle K help,

made everything so much easier. After we

finished loading the truck, Circle K invited us to

attend their August DCM. It was so much fun and

the K-ers definitely gave off some good vibes, but

sadly we couldn’t stay the whole time :L

D23 Car Wash: Sept 14

The Key Clubs in division 23 got together

to wash cars for PTP. I did all the jobs,

ranging from sign shaking, working the

bake sale stand, and even washing the

cars. It was a lot of fun and we did really well earning us $240 for PTP! I

learned that there are a lot of generous people in Reno and Sparks.

There were a lot of people who gave us free money! One guy even

bought us all snacks! This car wash was really successful and I hope our

successes continue.

Shocking Facts D:

Everyday 39,000 + Children become injured

and require medical attention

8.4 Million Children are sent to the

emergency room every year

40% of child deaths occur at home

90% of these injuries are preventable

What is PTP? A program that that edu-

cates people about how to

prevent avoidable acciden-

tal injuries in children.

Why PTP? It helps thousands of children

live and be healthy!!

Page 15: D23 October 2013 Newsletter

Pg 14

Good Facts :D

CNH Key Clubs aim to fundraise $154,000 for

PTP

Reno is home to one of the 6 CNH Partner

hospitals

A huge portion of money raised goes into

scholarships, grants, and technology used to

help children

Why Should I Fundraise for PTP?

-It helps thousands of children!

-Money raised goes into training doctors and

nurses.

-To buy pediatric supplies needed by the hos-

pitals

-To be someone’s hero!

This month we just held our first two key club meeting of this school

year and also held one board meeting. Our club really didn’t partici-

pate in any event other than me and another individual volunteering

at the Rib Cook Off and helping sell ice cream and juices. The profits

went to the local Upward Bound program we're in. Also our club

president and vice president took time out of there crazy busy

schedule to help unload the huge Kiwanis truck for Kiwanis DCON.

Hug High School

And with a blast the brand new school year has started! Galena Key Club has

been hit with over 15 brand new members and are already starting to plan for

Race For the Cure with bakesales, carwashes, and other amazing ideas! The

board has been hard at work registering new members, improving old files, and

bringing in many new and bright Key Club faces! Primary goals of the club right

now are a) Recruit innovative and new members to Key Club, b) Work with

other community service clubs at Galena to make a HUGE impact!, and espe-

cially c) HAVE FUN! With a bright new school year coming up, the Galena Key

Club is ready to tackle upcoming challenges and grow!

Yeti Points System (YPS) Hi, Yetis! This is Bunny and I am writing this to spread the news about Division 23’s Yeti

Points System (YPS), its history, and how it will be put into effect. YPS was initiated two

years ago during past Lieutenant Governor Alyssa’s term. It went on hiatus during past

Lieutenant Governor McXine’s term, but Marshall suggested to the three EAs that we res-

urrect it. I took it into consideration and decided it would be a great idea for our division

to have YPS back. YPS serves a couple purposes:

Fun competition

Increased attendance and participation from clubs

Grounds to identifying clubs/members that deserve Club/Member of the Month

And with this system, responsibilities are accounted for. By that, I mean each EA

must monitor certain clubs so that not all the work of tallying points, figuring out who went

to which event, etc. falls on one EA. Kevin Terral monitors clubs in the Spring Creek/Elko

area: Spring Creek, Albert Lowry, Elko. Jhana Fry monitors clubs in the Reno/Sparks area:

Wooster, Sparks, Spanish Springs, Reno. And Bunny Mo monitors clubs in the Reno/Sparks

area: Galena, Reed, Hug, North Valleys.

Now to explain the distribution of points. As all Key Clubbers know, members are on

the very top of the inverted pyramid and that is the reason why members will receive

more points than officers—no offense. It is highly recommended that officers attend as

many Key Club events as they can, but we can’t forget how important members are! In-

stead of words, here is a table to display the points system.
