Kristina’s Korner
Coming full circle
Dear District 47 Members and Friends,
This article will be the last of my Kristina’s Korner editorials. The year is al-most over and you have elected a new, outstanding team to start working for
you come July 1.
But don’t think for a second that we are done with this year yet!! We
have 25 very important and productive days to go.
Our Members and Clubs are doing well. To date, 99 Clubs have reached Dis-tinguished or higher status (half of those are President’s Distinguished!). We are shooting to get to at least 200, so still some way to go. I’m really impressed with where we are right now; knowing that you all will PUSH a lit-
tle more.
A few more speeches, a few more new members and of course making sure to
submit it all to Toastmasters – that’s all we need to do.
This year has gone by so fast. It wasn’t that long ago we were celebrating last year’s success, setting our goals for this year; preparing to train our Offi-
cers and had a whole year ahead of us.
Now, here we are. Almost at the end; with important work still ahead of us. I do hope that you have gained a lot of extra CONFIDENCE this year – the confidence to take on a Club Officer role or speaking outside of your Club. Maybe you’ve gained so much confidence that you’ll compete soon in the
Club Humorous speech or Evaluation contest.
Taking on the LEADERSHIP side of Toastmasters is very rewarding and I want to thank EVERYONE who has made my three years as a District Trio leader so exceptional. It has truly been my humble pleasure to SERVE as your District
Governor.
The year is coming full circle and soon it’s time to start
all over again – how lucky we are!

It’s Not Your Grandparent’s TLI Any More! Toastmasters Leadership Institute (officer training) has been transformed into a magical day of friends, food and fantastic workshops. Long gone are the days of driving hours to attend a battery of workshops with lunch in the middle. District 47 has made it possible to attend district spon-sored Club Officer training - TLI - in your own backyard! And that’s not the best part. The best part is the quality of presentations. District 47’s overall abilities have skyrocketed in the past years, as evidenced by the incredible speech, evaluation and Table Topics’ contestants. At your local TLI you will receive training from District 47 celebrities and the best of the best. This and all the extra-curricular activities are what set these TLIs apart from yesteryears. Club Officer training is not just for officers. TLI is open to all Toastmasters. Why? First, because every Toastmaster should consider holding office at some point. Attending an Club Officer work-shop will give you the necessary information to make your future decision to serve as a Club Offi-cer. Second, because TLI has many more learning opportunities than just Club Officer workshops! Considering it takes a great evaluator to be a great speaker, becoming a great leader will also ele-vate your speaking ability. The good news is, leadership skills can be learned. As many of us have already experienced, leadership and communication skills give us the edge so we can rise to the top! Mark your calendars and register on-line today for the TLI in your backyard!
See you there!

There are four exciting Officer Training opportunities com-ing up soon. Plan to attend these TLI - Toastmasters Lead-ership Institute — in June. Go to the District 47 website,

You’re Simply the Best!
We are almost at the end of another Toastmasters year and this means, electing a new slate of Officers, submitting last minute education goals and of course recruiting more NEW MEMBERS so our Clubs can be-
come Distinguished.
I am honored to have had the privilege to serve District 47 this year. The new friendships and lessons learned will last a lifetime. We worked hard together, laughed together, played together and sometimes
cried together. I’ve been encouraged by your acts of kindness and unselfishness.
I am proud of what you have accomplished within your Clubs, Areas and Divisions, but the best is yet to
come. There is still time for a final PUSH to increase membership and end the year with a bang!
From May 1 to June 30, add FIVE NEW dual or reinstated members to your membership roster and receive a special ‘Beat the Clock’ ribbon from Toastmasters International to display on your Club’s banner. The District is also adding an additional reward to Clubs that achieve this goal, by giving a choice of one mod-
ule from The Better Speaker Series or The Successful Club Series.
This is our way of saying a final thank you for a job well done this year. Thank you for the awesome work
you have done!

Compassionate Conversation
Our lives are busy and full. If it was not for the internet, perhaps we would lose touch with friends. Yet, the texting and Facebook are brief encounters and many times lack substance that simulates rela-tionships. Years ago I read a poem by Charles Han-son Townes. I am sharing it for my last Compassion-ate Conversation article to remind you of how impor-
tant it is to keep in touch.
AROUND THE CORNER Around The Corner I have a friend In this great world that has no end Yet days go by, and weeks rush on, And before I know it a year is gone, And I never see my ole friends face, For Life is a swift and terrible race. He knows I like him just as well As in the days when I rang his bell And he rang mine. We were younger then, And now we are busy, tired men: Tired with playing a foolish game, Tired with trying to make a name. “Tomorrow’, I say, “I will call on Jim, Just to show that I am thinking of him.” But tomorrow comes –and tomorrow goes, Around the corner –yet miles away. . . “Here’s a telegram, sir,”
“Jim died today.” And that’s what we get and deserve in the end: Around the corner, a vanished friend.
Cultivate and nurture your relationships. Hug,
laugh, and be joyful.

presents
Terry Brock What Your Momma Never Told You About Business in
2010!
In May and June, all Toastmasters clubs will receive the new Club Leadership Kit, which consists of all seven club officer manuals, the Distinguished Club Program manual (Item 1111), and the Distinguished
Club Program Goals Wall Chart (Item 1111C).
The kit will be mailed to the current club president of record, who will then be in charge of providing it to the incoming club president for 2010-2011. These materials are very important to the future success of your club, so please take special care to see that
they are given to the incoming club officers.
Electronic versions of the club officer manuals and Dis-tinguished Club Pro-gram manual are also avail-able for free on the Toast-
masters Web site.
Congratulations!

Club Anniversaries
Congratulations to these clubs celebrating in June! In the past, in preparation for the Annual Business Meet-ing, all Club Presidents would receive a blue enve-lope with their proxy form to be submitted at credentials during the
International Convention.
Beginning this year, in an effort to simplify the process, reduce costs and minimize the environmental impact, hard-copy proxy forms will no longer be mailed to each Club
President.
Toastmasters International will send the official proxy notification for the Toastmasters International Annual Business Meeting to Club Presidents via e-mail. Using the Toastmasters Web site, Clubs can determine electronically who will
carry their votes:
• The Club can send a delegate to
the meeting.
• The Club may assign the proxy to
the 2010 -2011 District Governor.
• They may also assign another ac-
tive Toastmaster member.
If a Club assigns the District Gover-nor as its delegate, the District Governor in office at the time of the International Convention will be able to cast the Club’s votes at the Annual Business Meeting. From the Web site, District Gover-nor will be able to see not only which Clubs have assigned their proxies to them, but they can also find out which Clubs have or have not assigned their proxies. For those Clubs who have not submitted their proxies, District Governors will be provided with the Club President’s name and contact in-formation to allow the District Gov-
ernor to follow up.
